Leo Niehorster Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Please let's limit the use of signatures to text and disable the use of images (see member X-Files, for a very crass example). Thank you.Leo

Thank you.Leo But I LIKE his signature! One man's crass is another man's truth. Besides, what's so offensive about cavalry sabers? If the link is the issue, may I respectfully suggest you not click it? . Edited September 12, 2010 by Misfire
Corinthian Posted September 13, 2010 Posted September 13, 2010 I think Leo's complaining about the size. And here I was thinking of adding a picture for my sig.... ISTR there is a feature wherein one can disable seeing signatures. Check out your profile settings, Leo. ISTR the feature is there. A simple unticking (or ticking) of a box would mean you won't be seeing any signatures.
Leo Niehorster Posted September 15, 2010 Author Posted September 15, 2010 Yes, thanks Thomas. What a nice feature. Wish other boards had it. I have absolutely nothing against the cavalry sabres. What I object to is the placing of large, (and colorful, or even blinking or moving), images in this area. A frequent poster or posters will make the thread pages look like the Strip in Las Vegas. Much too distracting. CheersLeo

I used to post at another board, and it became, shall we say, too feature-filled. Not only were there avatars and graphical sigs, there were also ribbons, awards, and other stuff posted in one's profile, which was all a pain to see. And the ranks there were, shall we say, Walt worthy (general, lt., major, etc - military ranks, with corresponding insignia). Fortunately, there was a feature to turn it all off, but I still left. DB Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 If moving avatars irritate, then you can press the red "stop loading" "x" in IE to stop them. "Esc" works in Firefox and probably in other browsers, also.
X-Files Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 Did it ever occur to you, to PM me and ask me nicely to find smaller ones?
rmgill Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 Did it ever occur to you, to PM me and ask me nicely to find smaller ones? Apparently not. I think your Sabres need to dance, with audio.... That or a GIF89 of a whole cav troop rumbling across the bottom of your posts...
Leo Niehorster Posted September 22, 2010 Author Posted September 22, 2010 Thomas suggested a fine solution. This way you can do your thing and I can do mine. Everybody wins. CheersLeo
Rocky Davis Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 Did it ever occur to you, to PM me and ask me nicely to find smaller ones? That would seem to be the most non-confrontational way to do it (instead of starting a thread to bitch about another member). But, I do have to say that it is the very first time I have ever seen somebody publicly bitch about somebody else’s choice of avatars based on the size, and not the content. We’ve had one or two complain that an avatar is offensive. But we’ve never had anybody complain that an avatar is too large (until now). WTF is “too large?” Is it not in the eye of the beholder? If one thought that it was too large, would it not also make sense to complain to Moderator and, if Moderator felt the avatar was out of place, then HE could direct a change, either by PM or some other means? Leo – I have to say that maybe you need to mind your own business and that, if complaints need to be made, make them to Moderator like everybody else does.

Corinthian Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 It is the Whine Cellar after all. Let's cool off a weeee bit. As for avatars, the size is already limited by the forum software. ISTR that off-site avatars are automatically reduced in the proper size by the software. While uploaded avatars need to follow the size restrictions (I forgot the exact pixel size). For sigs, though, it's different. At least there's no "stirring, patriotic music" in MIDI format like Sparky's sites.
X-Files Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Let's cool off a weeee bit. Be quiet, Dr Tran, or I'll let Grandma take you for another ride.

That sounds like the infamous "officer's club" for the Vietnam game site that was doing a funeral wake for MSG Connors
