I may be spending too much time on this game.

I have:

A-20

T-28

Matilda

T-34

T-44

SU-100

VK3002(DB)

The Stewart is a premium light tank that is only currently available only as a prize for jumping through variuos hoops (visit this or that website, meet the team at a conference, etc) I assume that like all premium tanks it's a good money maker but not something that is likely to be called overpowered.

Is anybody else down? I had "critical error" during update and got message below. Repeatedly.

Tried to enter forum, and main website and all are not being found or timing out..

Yep same thing. Probably something related to the maintainance they were doing today.

I have a KV-3, just bought the 100mm, not bad but so slow. At least the turret turns faster than the KV-2, I hated that.

VK3601 88L56 spall liner, speed loader and improved optics, crew is at 100% all across

Leopard w 50L60 improved ventilator, spall liner and open slot

Wespe w long 105, grinding to Grille

Stg w the long 75mm, which is really a fun vehicle to play. The gun is accurate, punches just about everything I shoot and fires fast.

The website indicate an announcement for maintenance of the servers on Oct 14th

I keep thinking I might like the German TDs better than the SUs but I keep bailing on the Hetzer before I can earn enough to unlock the STG. The hetzer is the worst vehicle I've played. It's slow, has limited traverse so you have to slooooowly pivot to line up your gun for just about any crossing or target to your flank, and it has no armor to speak of. I think I'm still 8k away from unlocking the STG, maybe after I pay for the next month of premium I'll buy another garage slot and give it another try.

A-20 Camo Net, spall liner, ventalator

T-28 Binos (not terribly useful but they're paid for and can be transferred between tanks)

Matilda Spall Liner, Ventalator, Power Rammer

T-34 Spall Liner, Power Rammer, Camo Net (this combined with a maxed out engine, tracks and the already quick firing 57mm zis4 gun is a complete blast to play)

T-44 Spall Liner, Power Rammer, Stab

SU-100 Spall Liner, Power Rammer, Improved Gun Laying Drive (not sure if it is appropriate for a TD, but I bought it a right after the wipe and it can't be dismounted.)

VK3002(DB) Spall Liner, Power Rammer, Camo Net

For those having trouble logging in - the actual game servers seem to be up (as the announcement indicated) - you just have to go to the directory you installed the game to and use the "World of Tanks" executable to launch the game, instead of the "WoT Launcher".

Could you explain to me when a tank is "elite". Do I need to have all upgrades or do I also have to train the whole crew to 100%?

You need to research all the parts of that machine. then you get "elite" status. -> Free movable exp.

Nothing to do with the crew.

Yesterday I noticed that you can retrain your old crew to a new tank with some benefits.

I have:

BT-2 (45mm) for fun

Grille for artillery fun. Dont play much.

Two very different T34:s. One sniper and one dog fighter. I mainly play with these.

T34 (57mm "autocannon") dog fighting fun. Elite.

T34 (100mm) (Binos, rammer, camonet) Long range punisher and stalker. (-> T-43 -> T44)

I have managed to reduce my gaming time to 2h/night. :)

Do you really try to cut down on gaming time?

I desperately try to get more. :D

Picked up the Marder II last night, a bit better than the AT-1, working on the 75mm gun upgrade, got my PZ III to Elite so upgrading the crew quickly now. Will likely sell the Panzerjager I when I get the PzIII medium

I started playing with SPGs - worked my way up to the SU-26 so far - and I agree with what someone posted earlier, that it's a very good thing to do to learn how to avoid being taken out by artillery. It's fun, too - if you're competent and not afraid to move with the action, you can have a major impact on the game.

I still think arty is ridiculous and overpowered, though (at least early on) - you earn stupid amounts of XP and money for very little effort, compared to what you have to go through in a tank.

On another note, I finally realized what the Valentine is good at - it's incredibly stable and accurate when firing on the move. Unfortunately, it still can't hurt anything it hits...

For reasons I totally do not fathom, I am now eligible to by either a Pz S35 or a Valentine Medium. Do I want either of those and if so, which one? Should I wait until my financing comes through on something better, or does it even work that way. I'm still in the Pz38h (and shared five kills with another guy defending Karelia today). I love those piecemeal, uncoordinated attacks.

These are both premium tanks which are nothing to write home about. IMO your gold is better spent for a premium account.

I did a day of premium account for which I notices nothing in particular except somewhat more points accumulated. There was no noticable improvement in vehicle performance. What should I have been expecting.

I think I'd like to have a Pz Mk.IV with a 75mm gun, or something like that, eventually. How best to get there?

Posted

A premium account nets a 50% boost over normal credits and experience earned in each match. So where you may have earned 10000 credits and 400 experience, you'll walk away with 15,000 credits and 600 experience... basically it's a fast track to better tanks and equipment. It doesn't affect your actual vehicle performance, just gets you more for your efforts. With a premium account this applies all tanks in your inventory.

A premium tank will do the same, but it will just apply to that one tank... and the experience has to be converted to free experience so burns gold. And most premium tanks are dogs that can't be upgraded.

Best to save up enough for a 30 day premium account (2,500 gold), and have a 30 day boost on all tanks. With 150 gold income per day, you'll have more than enough gold for another premium account when the 30 days are up. You'll even have enough left over for a premium tank then if you want to try one.

I have another stupid question, in some battles when I open the player list using the TAB key, some players have silver medals reading "1" or "2" next to their names. What does this mean?

I've wondered about that too.

Is the Churchill worth saving for ?

Great little game, seems to take forever to get the points to get up the tank listings though.

I've got :

BT-7

Bison

Hetzer (terrible !)

Marder

Pz35t (which I quite like, have put in a long 2cm AA gun which really pumps out the rounds).

Suggestions, anyone, on how to get up to a decent armoured vehicle ? I'm not the greatest tanker in the world and would appreciate advice on how to get to something with some frontal armour and a reasonable gun.

Do people buy lots of the special ammo using gold ? I've avoided it thus far due to trying to save the gold.

I always have a few rounds of the special ammo with me, in case my PzIIIA meets a KV. The only chance to hurt it is the special ammo.

That indicates they are part of a platoon.

It seems hardly possible to scratch a KV-1 when in in the IIIA, even with the L42 gun with special ammo. I now drive a Marder II with the 76 mm gun and this is neither much to write home about against the KVs. These tanks totally dominate the battlefield.

Hm, I found the KVs not much trouble for the 75mm L/48. Of course they take lots of rounds, but it penetrates. The L/70 penetrates them frontally.

With the Pz III A your job is not to fire at KVs but at artys. :)

I found the PZ35T a useful little tank, abole to take on almost anything on it's level and fast enough to stay out of most trouble. The PZII with the long 20mm is the same within it's level, although best not to go frontal with the PZ35T.
