Harold Jones Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 That would be me, although if arty is in the game you have just enough time to get 2 shots off (light tank) then you must move (quickly). I prefer to advance to cover, observe or shoot from there and repeat. Generally each map has pinch points and if I can get a concealed flanking position at one of these I will. The key is to also observe the map and once you see that most of their scouts are done in, then it’s time to move forward and destroy the remaining forces. Teams of 3 seems to work well, A hasty charge into SPG’s, heavies, TD’s is a sure bet to die gloriously. I think last night we were on opposing sides. Sneaking and peeking* is a survival strategy for scouts, but 4 heavies hiding behind some rocks held at bay by a matilda and stug III is just pathetic. There are times to play conservatively and times when you need to be aggressive. Sadly a lot of people don't seem to know how to tell the difference. Part of the problem is coordination, if you have access to team speak or some other voice comms life is much better, I was platooning with some guys in a clan I joined and being able to coordinate by voice probably made us 3 or 4 times as effective as we would have otherwise been. *I play my A-20 to blow off steam and generally choose to die a glorious death charging into the midst of the enemy just because it's fun to see how far I can make it.
seahawk Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Since my PzIIIA has the 50/L60 it feels like a different tank. Now you have a decent change against nearly all other tanks. The 37mm was hopeless.
zakk Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Still going with my T-46, scoring some kills now and then. I haven't read the instructions yet, but how do I get the gold? It seems to come now and then, but I haven't noticed how I get it... Also, I think they should cut the "fictional" tanks in the official version. Like Leopard. Any tanks that was produced or fielded in WWII is ok, but paper designs should be kept out of the game for realism. And still embracing the suck of artillery.

You can save it or spent it. Save and "buy" week or month premium account. -> 50% more exp and credits from missions. If there are many artillery pieces in the map use different tactics. Never stop or only hide behind the houses. If there are more than 4 SPGs speed does not even help so I stay in the "artillery shadow" (behind a house or rock) Edited October 13, 2010 by Tomi Sarvanko
EchoFiveMike Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 I must be doing something right, I get 150gp per day. I usually camp behind cover to defeat the initial rush of enemy scouts and then pause for friendly scouts to recon what the enemy is doing. And then, depending on the enemy TOE, I'll either move the shoot at it or make a run for the objective. Making a run is not possible in the KV or KV3 S/F....Ken M
Colin Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Just bought the AT-1 and equipped it with the 57mm, a fine gun with great terminal effect, but man if they find where you are, then your screwed as they will crash into you to stop you slewing around. I screwed up a major rush with a flanking ambush in my Panzerjager 1, they never figured out where I was and 3 destroyed and several damaged gave my side time to finsh them off, a warm fuzzy feeling I had!

Doug Kibbey Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 I need some help... I have a Pz38hwhatever. 800 gold300,000 game credits thingies33,000 "transfer" points What's my best move here? BT-2's are kicking my ass in straight up fights. And I have to face Pz III's, too. Step-by-step, how do I go about it. Nothing lights up as available for "purchase" except the LOLtraktor and the MS-1, which I've had and sold.I did buy a camo net. Thanks in advance for a patient response...I'm having trouble outside of the battle area.

Thanks in advance for a patient response...I'm having trouble outside of the battle area. Click on the button next to your xp that says transfer. It will pop up a window that lets you convert your xp to free xpwith 800 gold you can transfer 20K points to free xp In order to unlock new tanks and modules you have to spend XP to do that you do the following. click on the tab that says tech treechoose a nationality and explore your optionsEach module of a tank will have an xp cost to unlock it. You start with either the ltraktor or the ms1 you don't have to unlock every module, just the ones that lead to the next tank on the tree.Once you have chosen the type of tank you want to drive start spending xp to research your way to it.With 20k xp you can go quite a ways up any one tree. once you have researched a vehicle you can buy it in the store. once you have researched an upgrade you can buy it and mount it on your vehicle When you play a non-premium tank you accumulate xp that can only be spent on that particular tank. Once you have researched everything researchable for a given tank you become elite.Elite crews can choose to continue to accumulate XP that you can then convert to free xp as you did above or you can choose not to accumulate xp and instead get faster crew training.
Doug Kibbey Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 (edited) GODAMMIT! I just don't get anywhere. I went back to MS-1 at no cost, have tried all the research and trying to transfer stuff, but obviously I'm doing something wrong. I click, I right click, I have some highlighted next tier tanks in tech tree, and can get two pages of data, but no option to fucking purchase. I'm fed up unless someone can provide a click-by-click flow chart. I've tried every well meaning suggestion, but I goddam can't buy anything up the ladder. Edited October 13, 2010 by Doug Kibbey

seahawk Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 The III A only gets the L42 50mm... only the medium Pz III gets the L60. A thx. Even the short 50 makes a huge difference for me. So I will start researching the PzIII now and hope for the 50/L60,
zakk Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Thank you Harold, E5M, Tomi et al for advices. I went for TD yesterday, and I have the Marder II now. Usually getting at least one kill per game, so the Jagdpanther is slowly becoming a dream now. The Hetzer seems to be a decent vehicle too. Looking forward to get that. The handicap in close combat with tanks is clear, but I really like the TD hiding in bushes and behind rocks sniping stuff. Next is trying to get the 75mm gun for the Marder II and a camouflage net. I had one, but sold it. Apparently you can transfer cammo from one vehicle to another? Is that right? Also, I have some problems managing my crew. I had a 75% trained crew for my Elite Panzerjager I, but somehow I managed to dismiss them, and they disappeared. Perhaps because I sold the Pzj I to afford to buy the Marder II? Could I have moved this crew to the Marder II? And still kept the 75% training level for them?

Could I have moved this crew to the Marder II? And still kept the 75% training level for them? I made a mistake using old crews for new tanks. Its -30%. Buy a new 75% crew for a new tank. When you reach 100% you can choose extra skills for the crew member.
bojan Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 I made a mistake using old crews for new tanks. Its -30%. Buy a new 75% crew for a new tank. When you reach 100% you can choose extra skills for the crew member. Transfer old crew and retrain them - that way if they have some skill they will keep it.. Later when you get to T-34/Pz-IV level it pays off to train gunners with gold to 100%.
Harold Jones Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Once a crewman is around 90% it makes sense to train him for the next vehicle you buy. The 20k credits you pay to upgrade him to 75% will actually get you something like 10 % less than his current level. You can train a crewman by right clicking on him and choosing the training tab. To train one for a new vehicle you select the class from the class drop down and then the specific type from the type drop down. Before you sell a tank you can send the crewmen you want to keep to barracks using the same right click menu, choose send to barracks and not dismiss. Your barracks has a finite number of slots (you can buy more for gold) 16 I think. Also, does anybody else think of The Luggage from the Disc World books when they watch a T-28 zooming around on those tiny little road wheels?
Matt Urbanski Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 (edited) Damn, I hate the Panzer III. It starts off with the same popgun as the IIIA, but since it's a "medium" tank you get matched up with much tougher opponents most of the time... Does it get better when you work up to the larger turret and the 7.5cm gun? Can that actually hurt a Panzer IV or a T-34? Edited October 14, 2010 by Matt Urbanski
EchoFiveMike Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 The shortie 75mm isn't too bad a gun, I find it's better than the 50L60. Don't bother with AP, run nothing but HE. Awesome for killing SPG's and TD's. Blow the tracks and then pound 'em. S/F.....Ken M
Phalanx Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 (edited) Re: CrewsKeep and retrain. It costs the same to retrain a crew to 75% on a new tank as it costs to train a new crew to 75%. May as well keep the bonuses and commendations that the old crew has earned... just takes a bit more time to send them to barracks, dismiss new crews, bring the old crews back in and retrain them. Re: PzIIIThe fully upgraded PzIII plays like a light, but with better armour and a better gun. It makes a great scout/artillery raider. When I was using the PzIII, it wasn't uncommon for me to be able to kill 2-3 enemy SPGs before they knew what hit them. I just gave up my III for the IV, and I already miss the III. You definitely need the engine and suspension upgrades, though... Edited October 14, 2010 by Phalanx

You definitely need the engine and suspension upgrades, though... I did get the suspension and engine upgrade, and the mobility is very good - I'm sure I'll adjust, but I just wish I didn't get placed into so many battles where the top 4 or 5 tanks are Tigers, IS-3s, etc. Considering how many times I've been killed by Panzer IIIs when in my II or IIIA, I'd love the chance to be on the other side of that.
Colin Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Right now my stable (All fully upgraded) consists of: PanzerJager I with 50mm PZ35(T) PZ IIIA with 50mm PZ II with long 20mm At1 with 57mm I have trained the commanders of the German tanks to 100% and given them each a skill, only the PZIIIA is not at Elite status (hopefully tonight that will change) and most of the my crews are at 60-62%. I plan on just training commanders for now and save my gold for later. I find for the levels they play in each tank is well armed and all but the AT-1 is fast enough to avoid being chewed up by the lights. The key with the TD is to be a long way off with flanking shots and try to take out the tanks you see outlined in the bush which confuses them. Up close the 57mm is deadly and reloads quickly. I took out a Char B last night with it. The PZII with the long gun is a excellent BT-2 killer. Saw a Churchill for the first time yesterday, nice looking tank. Went through my Store but can’t find the M3 Stuart anywhere, seen a few Valentines on the battlefield, but no Matilda’s yet.

The Valentine is a piece of junk - at least when it comes to combat effectiveness. Maybe there's more to it that I just don't see, but while it's got decent armor and HP, it's horribly under-powered and (most importantly) mounts a worthless POS of a gun - it's a tier IV tank, IIRC, but forget about hurting anything your own level or higher, it's not even much use against Tier III tanks. On the other hand, it's cheap to repair, so early on it's an easy way to make money.
Colin Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Funny for a time the 2pdr was one of the better AP rds out there, lack of HE was the problem.
