Fritz Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 well today I killed a Tiger because there was our Tiger ramming him. Basically they were tied and only my flank shots did the trick. I got the kill but our Tiger got away with 50% health so I think everybody was happy. Sadly we lost the game
seahawk Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Do you still have to register for the BETA and wait for the access?
Doug Kibbey Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 I've now got four games with four kills to credit. All on defense and saving the base (and three of those, the game). Also have the "Steel Wall" medal with six oak leaf clusters, which I take to mean I get the crap shot out of me a lot, but continue to fight effectively up until my death. Dubious distinction. Means I'm a shell sponge. I do like a "last man standing" scenario, unless it's like six-to-one, which is no fun at all. All my money goes to ammo purchases. Like Merrill in "Signs"..."it felt wrong not to shoot". I hate those damn BT-2's. Like turbo jeeps on steroids. I think the modeling is hokey.
Colin Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Yea the BT-2 take a huge amount of hits with minimal effect, they just charge around in circles. I nailed a few with Arty tonight and that made me feel better. Currently have the German Lighttank, PZ35T, PzII, SU-18 and Panzerjager 37, sold my MS-1 to make room. I use researched everything on the light tank and use the experience points for training crews which I am moving to the other vehicles. Also spent 200gold today training the Commander which effects the other crew. I think every couple of days I will train up my Commanders with gold and use the light tank to improve the rest. I generally carry in the Light tank and Pz35t 10 APCR and 10 HE which is useful for long distance work.

To get the specifics, right click on the medal. ...Actually, a lot of extras can be found by right clicking on things. I wasn't used to having context menus in a game.
zakk Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 This thread made me download the game. Started to play yesterday. Played until late night, only went to bed 4 hours before I needed to go to work. Needless to say, great fun. I managed to get the Russian light tank after the MS-1, but then decided to go ze German, and sartet with the light tractor instead. I now know what I will do this weekend. Btw, I play as zakk.
Navck Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 A few tips for anyone playing the German tree:If you want to explore the medium and heavy routes, get the VK3001P and VK3601H. Both can use the 75mm L/70 and 88mm L/56. The 3601H has heavier overall armor but does not really reflect that when you go into battle, practically anything hitting you short of a Panzer 3 or lower will penetrate you frontally if they're competent shots. The 75mm L/70 has a slight advantage over he 88mm L/56 if you want to have slightly higher accuracy and rapid followup. The 88 will make short work of anything you can penetrate, but the 75mm has a slight edge. The 3601H has a (50mm conical something) squeeze bore option which gives you very high penetration but no HE shells and it doesn't do much damage on penetration. It is however worth using if you're able to plink at the heavies as your team's heavies are "distracting" them with the assistance of a 88, 105, 122 or 128mm. PS: The 3001P is huge, you'll realize this when you get shot at a lot. Pz III/IV vs IV: III/IV is more nimble and has a slight edge in armor, but lacks the 75mm L/70 option in the long run.
Tomi Sarvanko Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 Sad to see that so many got addicted to this game through this thread. Im very, very sorry lads. (First week went with 5h sleep/night, now I "only" play 1-2h/night) Still playing with T34. But it is in "gold" status and got coated optics, binos, camo nett, governor off, 90% crew ....Ill skip the T34/85 and go for T-43 and T-44. Yesterday I had a fun map. I was alone against 8 enemies. Kept moving and firing all the time and got 5 of em 1 by 1. Then SPG got me.Death cam people had fun.
Fritz Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Pz III/IV vs IV: III/IV is more nimble and has a slight edge in armor, but lacks the 75mm L/70 option in the long run. Yes but in the long run it gets you to the Daimler Benz Panther so... that's what I'm aiming at. I have my Pz III/IV fully upgraded, it's a fairly decent tank. Now just have to amass 26000xp...
seahawk Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Also started playing. I am learning the maps while driving around in my German basic Panzer. Man you are so helpless if you encounter anything from PZ III up.
Colin Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 In the German lighttank I hide on the flanks and shell with HE and try to shoot tanks hiding behind bushes, so they aren't sure who is shooting at them. The MS-1 with full upgrade is a good ambush tank, but your screwed if they figure out where you are at.
Doug Kibbey Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 I haven't been able to log on since last nite. Anyone else?
Colin Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 Around 11:00pm PDT the server shuts down for 45 minutes. I traded in my SU-18 for the Bison, not sure if it was the right move, now I am mixed in with KV's and Tigers, needless to say i scurry for a hidey hole right quick! man ammo is expensive for that beast! My favorite new ride is the Panzerjager I with the 50mm AT gun. The gun is easily capable of destroying everything out their with a couple of well placed shots. Ammo is cheap and repairs are as well. Flank ambushes are my new hobby. Most of the time they are dead before they know where I am and it's fast enough to stay clear of most of the fighting. The full meal deal with the PZ35t is a decent tank, good combo of speed, armour and gun.
Fritz Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 I am grinding my Pz III/IV. Either I am too aggressive (I often die in the very beginning of the battle) or I just plain suck. I have just 4000 out of 26000 required exp for the next tank... Gotta camp more.
Colin Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 Let the BT-2 guys charge ahead and locate the other guys and then shoot them from afar.
Fritz Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 Yeah, most definitely I live longer and make more xp if I move together with heavier tanks.
Mistral Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 (edited) I use a PzIV with the long 75mm gun. If you hold back in overwhatch and let others scout for targets its deadly. I love that map with the flat field between the two sides, I found a sweet spot where I am in a hull down position and I can snipe the other side, even if they spot me after firing several rounds I am hard to hit. Had 6 kills and another 3 damaged in that map last night Had another game where I teamed up with 2 tigers in the Prokhorvka map, we really cooperated, with one moving forward a bit and the others scanning for targets and so on. We destroyed half the enemy between us, well they did most of the killing Edited October 10, 2010 by Mistral
Colin Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 If you buy a PZ38T who do you fight with? Seems a good tank with the 5 cm gun, but not if you are bouncing against Tigers and KV's I will likely be able to afford a PZ III this weekend, seems a fair tech tree attached to it.
Phalanx Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 Anything above Tier 2 or 3 will move you into the big leagues, and that includes all 'premium' tanks (the ones you have to pay gold for - generally a waste of money). In the upper levels, who you get put in with is all luck of the draw. Sometimes you get stuck with heavies, sometimes with lights, sometimes it's actually balanced.
Harold Jones Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 Premium tanks are XP and credit earning machines, they are more heavily armored than their equivalents, they are fully upgraded so you don't have to level them up, and they are incredibly cheap to repair compared to the non-premium tanks.
Phalanx Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 Or you can just save the gold that you would have spent on a premium tank and get a premium account instead. That bumps up earnings and exp on all tanks by 50% instead of just one.
Harold Jones Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 Premium account and premium tanks aren't mutually exclusive. In beta if you save your gold for 18 days you can pay for a month of premium, 10 more days gets you a premium tank.
Fritz Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 I saw E5M today, he was with a KV in the enemy team. I died early due to a suicide scout run; still my team won and I got 750xp out of it but I don't know how he did.
