Fritz Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 (edited) Yeah I had the 35(t) briefly and it was often the heaviest tank on the battlefield. Currently 16K xp out of 41K required for a VK3002(DB)... I will have it soon. And then... in a week or so... I'll have a Panther. Edited October 17, 2010 by Fritz
seahawk Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Hm, I found the KVs not much trouble for the 75mm L/48. Of course they take lots of rounds, but it penetrates. The L/70 penetrates them frontally. With the Pz III A your job is not to fire at KVs but at artys. Sometimes, when there is only a KV on the other side left and no arty on our, you have to engage it with a IIIA. And the special ammo is able to hurt the basic KV (not KV-3) from behind. Matt Urbanski Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Sometimes, when there is only a KV on the other side left and no arty on our, you have to engage it with a IIIA. And the special ammo is able to hurt the basic KV (not KV-3) from behind. I wonder if I should go the Panther or the Tiger route. I went the Panther route - the Panzer III/IV - and while the first game in it went great, I've spent most of the day cursing it during a long losing streak. Now I'm starting to do pretty well, I'm not sure if it's my luck improving or me getting used to a new tank. I hope it's the latter... It's got a decently powerful gun when upgraded, but it's barely more durable than the Panzer III - and a lot larger, slower and more maneuverable. You have to be really careful when going up against the heavy tanks, and the smaller ones might occasionally circle-strafe you to death. If you go with it, I recommend caution - don't rush in like you're still in a Panzer III, your speed and maneuverability won't save you. Hang back, and take careful shots now that you can hurt most things. Use the fact you're decently fast to move around a lot, and resist the urge to slug it out. Overall, though, I'm having fun with it and don't regret it.
Fritz Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 The III/IV is awesome for its tier, once fully upgraded. It's top speed is only 43kph or so but with the top engine it can climb hills as fast as it drives on flat ground and the sloped armour is actually pretty decent. The problem with the Panther path is you go through VK3001(P) which really sucks as base model and even fully upgraded is nothing to write home about. I am currently grinding it. It's not horrible but not all that much fun. But it's not that bad, I am getting through it pretty fast, and I read the next tank, the Daimler Benz Panther proto, is amazing and very much worth the effort to get it. Only another 15K xp or so
EchoFiveMike Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 KV1 sucked. Even more with the KV2 turret. I didn't buy the 152 simply because I can't wait all week for the gun to reload. The KV3 isn't horrible, the 100mm and 122mm guns give a great deal of hitting power; it's just so slow and accelerates poorly. My Vk3601 is great, 88L56 gives fast reload and good hitting power, I'm almost to Tiger and I think I'll keep the Vk just because. S/F.....Ken M
seahawk Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Since my PzIII got the long 50mm, I am always sent to battles including TigerII, IS and stuff like that with me often being the only PzIII in the battle. Not that much chance to score kills in such battles.
zakk Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 I am currently using the Hetzer and Luchs. Hetzer is a dog, and it stinks too. Most often I am put into battles with KV-3, Tiger II, IS etc. It is dead slow, takes all day to turn, and doesnt punch very good. I had the 10,5 cm and then went for the longer gun (75 mm?) above the 10,5. I actually think I score less with the 75mm. Probably because I used the HEAT projectile on the 10,5. But its the only way to get the Jagdpanther. So I have to suffer a couple of weeks more, I think. To have some more fun, I will try to get the Leopard. I have the Luchs now, in basic configuration with 37 mm gun. This truly sucks. But with upgraded engine, gun, turret and suspension, I hope I will become one of those irritating racecars. Yes, and I forgot to go to bed yesterday, playing all night...
zakk Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 And I am even more sure that they should cut "what if" vehicles from the game, and only include tanks and guns that were actually fielded in WWII.
zakk Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Or keep "What if" for "What if" battles? That would work.
zakk Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Errm, Tuccy, does this mean that you listened to the voice inside your head, and downloaded the game? If so, what name do you play under? I suddenly felt an urge to whack you with a big chunk of HE...
Gman Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 If I want to get the fast route to a heavier armoured tank, is the Churchill worth splashing out the gold for ? Any other premium tanks worth bothering about ? Char B?
seahawk Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Saw a churchill and a few CharB in game. Did not seem to rock that much, as they were usual mixed in with KVs and worse, against which their main gun seems too weak.

zakk Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Had not received the code yet, maybe I did something wrong?I received my code the day after I requested it. Perhaps you should try again?
Harold Jones Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 And I am even more sure that they should cut "what if" vehicles from the game, and only include tanks and guns that were actually fielded in WWII. If it were a tank simulation I'd agree, but it's not. I really got hooked when I stopped worrying about the realism and started to enjoy it for what it is. Which for me is an FPS that plays out at a pace that I can actually do well in, that my avatar looks like a tank is bonus. Yeah I had the 35(t) briefly and it was often the heaviest tank on the battlefield. Currently 16K xp out of 41K required for a VK3002(DB)... I will have it soon. And then... in a week or so... I'll have a Panther. Fritz, the panther is 90k XP after you upgrade your DB to something playable, and I understand that tomorrow's patch will add 4k to that so it might take a little longer to get that Panther. The good news is that the DB is a beast, I'm thoroughly enjoying mine.
bojan Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Just upgraded VK3601 with 75mm L/70... Quite decent medium. Had 7 kills with KV-3 again .
Harold Jones Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 If I want to get the fast route to a heavier armoured tank, is the Churchill worth splashing out the gold for ? Any other premium tanks worth bothering about ? Char B? The Premium tanks are good money earners and if they end up in the right battle you can do some serious damage, but they tend to end up in a lot of higher tier battles. A Matilda has the armor and HP of a KV1 and a better gun, engine and tracks than the base model KV, but you can't apply any upgrades to it so it will, aside from crew performance and equipment add-ons, never get any better. I haven't played the Churchill but I assume it's the same general thing, so in most games you'll be hard to kill but you won't be on the top of the leader board for anything. One thing the Churchill is really good at is using its shattered hulk to block the center path in the lakeville map .

I thought I would get the DB by yesterday but I didn't feel like playing all day I hope it's as good as everybody says.
zakk Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 If it were a tank simulation I'd agree, but it's not. I really got hooked when I stopped worrying about the realism and started to enjoy it for what it is. Which for me is an FPS that plays out at a pace that I can actually do well in, that my avatar looks like a tank is bonus. I usually enjoy FPS games more the more "realistic" they are. I like games like Doom, but enjoy a game like CoD MW2 more, because the weapons and stories etc are a bit more realistic. For me, WoT would have gained even more if the "what if" vehicles were taken out or placed in their own "what if" sections. That said, WoT is without doubt the PC-game I have enjoyed most since I played the Jane's Combat Simulation games IAF, F/A-18, WWII Fighters and Fleet Command during the late 90-ties and early 2000.
seahawk Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 You need the What if Vehicles from a gaming point of view. Keeps the players interested and takes longer to reach the biggest tanks. Especialyl the US will need some what if vehicles if you look at the Tank destroyer tech tree.
Harold Jones Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 (edited) Interview with the CEO http://www.massively.com/2010/10/12/gdco-2010-interview-with-victor-kislyi-about-world-of-tanks/ Looks like they plan on having German, Soviet, British, US, French and Japanese tank trees eventually. Looks like the patch got postponed until tomorrow. Edited October 19, 2010 by Harold Jones
Doug Kibbey Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 I forgot procedure for how to sell a tank. Whatzit again?
Doug Kibbey Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 Go to Depot. Sell tank. Thx. Had done once but forgot how. Needed garage space without spending gold.
