I'll wait to see what Critical Drinker and similar YT channels have to say.

Why I like and follow Critical Drinker he did have few moments when he overanalyzes movie to get to the conclusion that is at least a bit of the stretch. But is why I follow him - I don't follow film critics that I agree with 100%.

That said, based on how hard previous Prometheus/Alien/whatever movies sucked review would have to be incredibly good for me to invest my money into that franchise again.

I'd argue you're being generous here with Critical Drinker, but maybe he's gotten better because I stopped a while back.  He was trying so hard to find woke messaging where there wasn't any that he was missing out on movies that weren't that bad.  He'd become so obsessed with being pissed it's like he forgot how to enjoy himself.

If any of the 'critical wankers' had been around in the '70s, they would have whined how Princess Leia is "too woke".

Any way, new 'Alien' looks indeed like it's closer to the original but then...why bother?

Can't wait for the Netflix remake of A New Hope. 😄

Yes, but his criticism about scenarios being bent backward in order to fit woke in are on point. Compare Leia's part of the first trilogy to the... IDK, any female semi-lead in almost* any project Disney did.

*Except Andor, which is so good that it is hard to believe:

- it is Star Wars

- It is Disney's.

Huh? I’ll bet many of the were raised on early Star Wars.

Its a fair point. After the first two, it looks an unnecessary replication. Hollywood is so obsessed with not taking risks, they risk not making any good movies. But then I believe this has been noted before.

Sometimes the YT AI suggests some good stuff.

Song is 1980s but footage is from a 1964 movie based off of air battles  in the Korean War. Lots of F-86 porn.

Sputnik (2020).

Russian sci-fi about cosmonauts in 1983 returning to earth with an extra passenger. Imo, surprisingly good. Not spectacular, and way too low light most of the time, but good plot and solid acting. Can be found on Youtube with English subtitles. Well worth the time.

Sounds like a remake of Nigel Kneales 'The Quatermass Experiment.'

Not seen that, so I read a bit about it. Yes, there are similarities, but not a remake. Sputnik is quite a different story.

I was amused to learn that Stephen Kings 'The Tommyknockers' is believed to borrow heavily from Kneales 'Quatermass and the Pit'. Which if you have not seen it, I can heartily recommend as well.

Also too the Colour Out of Space.

I watched the Quatermass miniseries with the Planet People cult.

It was quite prescient.

Yeah, that was the last of the series. It wasn't quite as focused, but it was certainly interesting, and as you say, quite prescient. Not least the banality of 21st century  tv.

I really must do a thread on 1970s and 1980s TV, there is quite a remarkable amount of it on YouTube.

Upcoming movies of possible interest (possibly, buyer beware):

The Last Front

Reagan (I was very skeptical, but I watched a short clip of an interview with Dennis Quaid, it might actually be OK)

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Bonhoeffer: Pastor. Spy. Assassin.

The Return

Not everyone ages like Monica Bellucci.

Given the facial type, I guess she needs a better makeup artist like Helena Bonham Carter.

Huh. I was sure I’d get a wistful and ironic comment from you about the much younger Miss Gomez.
