Stuart Galbraith
Kelly's Hero's is still the best tank film yet made. Or at least, yet made that ive seen. I hear there is one about an Israeli Tank crew in a Centurion in the Lebanon that was supposed to be interesting.
NickM
while catching up on old films Saw "No Way Out" last night. Tough ending, even though I knew what was coming. Had an uncomfortable dream of loading the charred bodies onto a helicopter. few days ago got finally around to watch Fury. Story soso. And a mobility killed sherman shopots up a whole Waffen-SS Division? Meh. Good points were the depiction how cramped and tight it is inside the grate steele beasts. But the actors were all too bloody old for the roles. The tiger was driving around rather uninspired (I know, they did not want to risk anything with the musem piece) Afterwards we watched Stoßtrupp Gold (aka Kelly's Heroes). Much better move with much better timing. more like a weak volksturm battalion with SS 'stiffeners' who decided to march up to the 'knocked out' sherman to look for loot. As for the Bovington Tiger, well..it has to drive but they dont want to break it either. Edited October 19, 2018 by NickM

BansheeOne
I see "No Way Out", despite the English language, is actually the title under which "Only the Brave" ran in Germany; the one about the fire crew that got mostly wiped out in a wildfire, starring Josh Brolin, Taylor Kitsch, Jennifer Conelly, Jeff Bridges and Andie Macdowell. Apparently the distributor chose an English title Germans would get.

Corinthian
Had the misfortune of seeing the latter third of Phantom Menace yesterday. Like a train wreck, couldn't change the channel. Gawd how awful everything about it was.
RETAC21
Today it's still awful.
Corinthian
Everything about it was awful. Supposedly a high tech time with spaceships and lasers. Yet fighting in open country in mass formations. The dialogue is awful. That scene where the good guys go to a window, point their guns up and fire grappling hooks. Wow. So stupid and cheesy. The victory parade. So stupid. The whole movie is stupid.
Stuart Galbraith
But its very good stupid. If you are going to lays your money down and say 'I want stupid!', its clearly the one to go for. I have to admit, I really dont get Star Wars. There are very few movies that can somehow be dragged out into a series and still work. The only reason Bond has managed it is, for the most part, they are stand alone episodes. I think the recent fixation on Spectre and Bonds early life is starting to be a ball and chain, at least from viewing the last two movies.
Ivanhoe
I have to admit, I really dont get Star Wars. Star Wars the series has been benefiting from momentum developed from the first 3. Massively wonderful sfx for the time, good ol' horse opera ethos (in a time when American news and entertainment media were staunchly counter-cultural), etc. These days, when any studio can produce world-class sfx (or hire it out), Lucas is floundering. Stuart Galbraith
The first one was good. The second one, well, maybe Id view it better if the third one hadnt been rubbish. Its kinda hard to get excited over a franchise that at its best consists of 2 good films. Even the Indiana Jones films had a better run than that. I agree about the SFX, the first one was really groundbreaking for the time. Again, Id like it better if Lucas hadnt 'reimagined' it and removed all the original SFX and turned it into just another CGI fest. Sorry, I know a lot of people go for this series and I dont disrespect that. For some strange reason prefer some of the more obscure scifi outings like 'Battle Beyond the Stars' (Magnificent 7 in space with Napoleon Solo and John Boy from the Walton's) and 'The Last Starfighter' (Cheesy but fun, and features an arcade machine that broke atari. Oh, and it has Catherine Mary Stewart).
Stuart Galbraith
Talk of a movie based on 'Rogue Trooper' is in the offing. So not that far removed from that 'IMPS' video posted earlier.
Stefan Fredriksson
Just re-watched Total Recall with Arnold. Some tech may seem a tad dated, but still an awesomely entertaining movie. I am possibly getting old, but why remakes? I can somewhat understand reboots (Batman for instance), but remakes of good movies? The Total Recall remake was horrible. From looking at the trailer for it, the new Papillon will not get close to the original. Remake of Pet Sematary - why? Apostle has gotten decent rating at imdb, but my advice is to spend those 2 hours+ on something entertaining. And oh yes - if you still haven't seen Lego Batman... chop chop! Brian Kennedy
The only Star Wars flick I've actually enjoyed after the first three was Rogue One, which was critically kinda scoffed at but made me re-read all the batshit stuff that various people did in WW2 to get mere fragments of Enigma to the UK. The Solo film was garbage. Growing up, I didn't care that much about Star Wars, my fanboy franchises were always Alien(s) and the Terminator -- I'm probably as pissed as most Star Wars fans about how poorly those franchises have been treated. The last decade worth of movies really makes me miss the 80s. Countless movies that broke new ground that have become timeless classics... It makes modern Hollywood seem even more pathetic. There is no doubt in my mind that there are great scripts out there, but the machine is in risk-averse mode. I mean, Hollywood got its spoiled fat ass kicked by Get Out. Very good movie, but it took an outsider.

When I ask the last time they've watched them the answer is usually "I haven't since I was a kid." I'm positive several of those folks realize they'd probably hate them if they tried watching them now and simply avoid it. At least with the original trilogy I can watch ESB and RotJ ad infinitum. Those two have stood the test of time fairly well.

It's a shame, though, that you have to sub to so many providers to see them. The most common answer was something along the line of "oh, haven't heard about that because we only sub to X." That's probably one reason some of these quality programs aren't getting as much praise as they deserve.
CT96
I can't say that I've seen the prequels since shortly after they came out, however, the John Williams soundtracks for them is outstanding. I regularly listen to all six soundtracks in production order, and musically the ending of Episode III is just simply outstanding. The Force Awakens is good... but not in the same league. The Last Jedi was just... musically it was a clip show. So the Skywalker Symphony (or opera?) for me is IV-V-VI-I-II-III

The original is far better than the remake. I mean yes, there was a lot of creative bits in the remake. I just loved the 'Is he, isnt he?' premise about it all being in his head in the original movie. Which is far closer to some of other PK Dicks work (though Ironically, not so close to the original short story on which its based).

Very good movie, but it took an outsider. I don't know, Hollywood has been remaking movies almost since it was founded. I remember it was common enough that Mel Brookes made a movie called The Last Remake of Beau Geste making fun of the whole idea. A Star is Born has been made four times since the original was shot in 1937.
Corinthian
Thanks to animated movies, Walt Disney has a reason to remake these into live action versions. I expect originally live action movies to be remade into animated versions with comedic elements. Oh wait. That's being done already with the Lego DC hero series (particularly Batman). Nobu
I've never been in a theater as filled with energy as Return of the Jedi on I think it was the 5th day after its release. The only seats left were in the neck-killing section in the front. At the first note of the logo fanfare, the blast of noise from the cheering was awesome. Nothing close to comparable since. Opening night for Empire Strikes back in 1980; The audience gasped when the shadow of the flagship Executor was cast over the 'standard' (and already huge) Star Destroyers--and no BS a cheer went up when we first saw Vader; Second only to--Terminator 2 Judgement Day: the opening sequences up to the credits (as well as the rest of the movie) have never been matched.
