Panzermann
Anyone catch 'Six Days' about the SAS raid on the Iranian embassy? Stuck overnight at an airport so watched it on Netflix on my phone. Liked it enough I watched at again with the wife at home. https://youtu.be/-lIlD-k37Xo Watched it on netflix awhile ago, while staying at a friend's. He was off to nightshift. yes, good film and in a positive way like old time thriller/action films. Not these permanent fuel explosions you have nowadays normally. I also liked how it showed the incident from the press platform's perspective, the people at home et cetera.

toysoldier
Remembering just how good Frank Herbert's book was so looking forward to a reboot. http://www.slashfilm.com/dune-remake-star-wars-for-adults-denis-villeneuve/ Never ceases to amaze me, Dune and many other works of High Fantasy and Sci-Fi are ripe with feminism themes, racial themes, techno-cultural themesyet they are left aside and Hollywood strives to inject those themes into stuff. One would think that the Bene Gesserit would be a feminazi's wet dream but noooo they gotta go with The Handmaid's Tale shock porn. Liberals are... indescribable. Soren Done on a budget. The explosions had me completely unconvinced. They should have got Tinto Brass to do it with more gratuitous nudity I think. The original dune was flawed undoubtedly, and yet comparing it to the book which I read more recently, it was actually a hell of a good adaptation. I think it might actually have been better if they had took stuff out, and not try to pack quite so much in. A remake would be interesting, but somehow you know they are just going to try and make it a cash cow like Star Wars has become.

Sci-fi is full of good female role models. Who would you prefer your daughter was into? Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian or these lot? If Disney want to appeal to girls, why not write some characters like these rather than Rose or Whatsherface With the Purple Hair?
Marek Tucan
The thing is... Rose would have a potential. A down to earth mechanic on a ship that is under constant barrage, or even on a base full of decrepit old weapons... There was space how to make her strong without being preachy. However, script said otherwise. Or even just security girl (since guarding life pods and all that). Same for Lady Purplehair Belated Kamikaze. Being second in command... Ivanova is a perfect example. And while she was badass, she was not past making jokes - not artificial ones. Her "No boom today - boom tomorrow" or "Ivanova is God" litany just went perfectly with the character and were well written. But... I mean even the ever so annoying Counsellor Troi from the Next Gen was better written than either - and that is a character whose depth of cleavage was used to make up for weaker beats in the series. Skywalkre
Anywayt, Solo flopped and there are some rumors about Disney not really being happy at all. I'm starting to doubt they're really unhappy and more just looking for a superficial fix. I read an interesting point about TLJ a few days ago. Yeah, Lucasfilm and Disney basically gave Ep. VIII to a nobody (as RLM put it) but those camps were in constant communication with the director throughout production of the film and liked what they saw (Rian Johnson was promised his new trilogy before the movie released, for example). It's not so much they're unhappy with where SW has gone but rather they're annoyed the masses haven't gobbled it up as much as they'd like. As such nothing drastic* is likely to happen and I imagine we'll get some cheap attempts at fan placation in Ep. IX at best. *Another great point I read was nothing drastic can happen. There's already countless merchandise produced. There's apparently two SW-themed parks opening up in the next year. Drastic changes would undercut all the money already spent/invested. At best their only option is to polish the turd that is the current trilogy. Edited July 1, 2018 by Skywalkre

Apparently she is trying to sell this and the audience isn't buying. They probably shouldn't have killed off the heroes of the original cast before the audience fell in love with the new cast. Because for SW the story isn't great or clever so you have to watch it for the cast. I haven't seen the last two eps. And because they are and will always be rebels they can't kick the old cast into desk jobs at Imperial HQ and call them back for cameos.

Brian Kennedy
Yeah, the scene where one of the Terminators gets into their HQ/refugee shelter is just totally heartbreaking. One thing that struck me on the re-watch is that the Kyle Reese character was a pretty brave decision — he’s not like some elite ninja guy, he’s basically the nearest grunt that John Connor was able to throw into the time machine. I think I read somewhere that their initial casting choice for Reese was Schwarzenegger, which would have made for a terrible movie. Not going to excuse the wisdom of throwing fused pipe bombs at a robot from the future chasing after you on a motorcycle though…
Skywalkre
Like SW it's another franchise that they should have let be. While T2 was another classic (and arguably a better film than the original) everything since has just... tarnished the franchise. They're actually making another movie with the original actress who played Sarah Connor reprising her role.
Yama
At this point I think we can solidly say it's a flop. It's floundering at around $320 million worldwide right now and expectations are it'll be lucky to reach $400 million (it's been way below R1 in daily intake since the very beginning and has had a less favorable domestic/international split the entire time). I read an article a few days ago that if that holds true Disney is looking at at least a $50 million loss on the film. As for the hardcore fans I wouldn't so easily dismiss them. Sure, they're small in number, but they're also the ones who go to see a film multiple times. They're the ones that can't stop talking about it to family and friends (that's a lot of free advertising). Those folks were mostly quiet and simply didn't go at all to this movie. I think we're seeing the repercussions of that. I vividly remember the flashback against Phantom Menace and it was INSANE, what you are seeing with Episodes 7 & 8 is nothing compared to that. Yet people flocked to watch episodes 2 & 3. Big difference was that George released ONE Star Wars movie in same time Disney released 4. If people wanted to see Star Wars, there was no choice, it was George's crapfilms or nothing and in three years the studio managed to convince most of the fanbase that they wouldn't repeat the previous movies mistakes. Yama
The MCU is full of strong female characters and not just Xena clones: Pepper Potts - CEO of a major corporation Natasha Romanov Sif Jane Foster - astrophysicist Peggy Carter Maria Hill Most of Wakanda, including Shuri, a genius multidisciplanry scientist Valkyrie Wasp Unless they turn Captain Marvel into a cliched SJW, they've got another major female hero about to become the face of the series. Hmmm...if anything, that list demonstrates that MCU female lineup is pretty weak. Black Widow is the weakest character of the Avengers, Sif was forgettable, Shuri was pretty badly written deus ex machina, Valkyrie was an alcoholic and deserter, Scarlett Witch has very one-dimensional personality (admittably she was that way in the comics too), Pepper is largely defined by her love interest with Tony... Not saying that they're all poor characters, quite the contrary, but MCU doesn't have Wonder Woman equivalent. On the other hand, it doesn't seem to need one. What I have observed, female audience flocks to the movies mostly for the male cast. On a same note, MCU has remarkably little sexploitation for this day & age and 80% of it concentrates on male characters. Compare to Transformers and its propensity for eye candy female characters. Panzermann
I won't say black Widow is the weakest. Sure she cannot twirl the universe around her fingers, but she is nonetheless capable to defeat supposedly stronger superpowered beings. Which is pretty impressive. Otherwise the character comes across as rather boring though. Then there are lots of women in the X-Men, but then htere are lots and lots and lots of X-Men in vene more contradictory series. Do not forget all the "side shows" in the MCU. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has Peggy Carter (alos had her own short series Agent Carter)Melinda May (badass noraml like Black Widow)Quake/Daisy JohnsonBobbi MorseYo-YoJemma Simmonsand a few more of the female agent variety, that play smaller roles Inhumans is filled with superpowered womanfolk Jessica jones has her own series Runaways has strong girls Cloak & Dagger has Dagger I always thought Wonder Woman was a woman, because Captain America already existed with the competing publisher and they needed something for the war effort propaganda. Screwed up 'Nam vets was all the rage in the 1980s but it turned out to be huge misunderstanding of PTSD & how it works and of course lots of it was 'political theater' (Three million homeless in the US-the vast majority of them are 'Nam vets-) or pure humbug. If he's gullible or malicious, he can make it seem much worse. The fact that this doc seems to be the only trace of this alleged phenomenon doesn't fill me with confidence that this really was a thing.
