Ssnake Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 Delicatessen... I think I've seen that one. Hungarian or Czech or something isn't it?French, actually. The director Jeunet later was hired for Alien 4 which got me really excited, but what a let-down that was. Still had its moments though.
Ivanhoe Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 "Big Trouble in Little China", or "Big Trouble"? I like 'em both. Best performances in "Big Trouble" is the Russians ("No bomb, is bar...") BTILC. "Dolemite" may actually give "Captain Alex" a run for it's money, but you can actually understand the dialogue in "Dolemite". I'm not sure that counts as a plus. The dialogue in Dolemite is part of its greatness, both in wording and in timing.
FlyingCanOpener Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 (edited) Just saw "Waiting for Superman" last evening (watching a movie in a theater when you're the only one there is totally AWESOME). Really enjoyed it. It made me appreciate my parents moving to the edge of a good school district when I was young (even though they couldn't really afford to) just so my brothers and I could go to a good public school. I'm curious if FCO has seen it and what his opinions are. From what he's posted on here of his experiences teaching it sounds like the documentary could've just as easily been shot in his neck of the woods. I haven't seen it yet, mainly because it's not showing around here. From what I heard it's quite good, but it's being absolutely murdered by unions and anti-Charter School advocates. Considering that most of their speaking about it involves vitriol and shrilling, it has to be something I would like and agree with! [edit] Having said that, IIRC a lot of the senior production types were involved with making An Inconvenient Truth. So take that for what it's worth. Edited October 31, 2010 by FlyingCanOpener
Jim Martin Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Just came out of seeing 'Skyline'. Don't go. Depressing.
Stargrunt6 Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 BTILC. The dialogue in Dolemite is part of its greatness, both in wording and in timing. The way Rudy Ray Moore accentuates every syllable when he says MF is comedy in and of itself.
AETiglathPZ Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 (edited) Just came out of seeing 'Skyline'. Don't go. Depressing. It's ID4 with Rancors and perty blue lights. I came in expecting ID4 with Rancors and perty blue lights. Not disappointed but want to see . Liked the UCAVs and Predator C's in action. There is talk of them making two sequels according to the wiki. Edit: Best part of the movie. The hero beating up a really cheap ass vagina-squid-alien. Can tell they ran out of budget right there. Oh look, Michelle Rodriguez is playing a semi-dykie tough girl. So glad she's versatile . . . Music sucked in the trailer.hatehatehatehatehate
Archie Pellagio Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Out of curiosity what is Skyline about? I have zero intention of seeing it until I know more about it - I hate movies with cryptic trailers. All I know is aliens come to earth and suck up thousands of people. The End.

Most alien invasion movies, we hoo-muns manage to somehow triumph over vastly superior technology. In 'Skyline', we don't. 'Nuff said.
Tim the Tank Nut Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Some producer saw the trailer for Cloverfield and said "That's what I want- copy that and make it bigger!"
Ivanhoe Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 This looks promising. Think Sir Walter Scott, but written by a guy with a more courtly grasp of English; http://www.ign.com/videos/2010/11/17/your-highness-restricted-trailer

Stargrunt6 Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Independence Day....with the cast of Jersey Shore. Falken That's not a depressing ending, then. Unless earth is invaded by shallow gym monkeys with implants.

Mobius Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 "Runaway Train" ...which I will not miss whenever it airs. Incredibly, the screenplay was written by Akira Kurosawa, which surprised me no end. Rebecca De Mornay is smokin' hot, even with a greasy face. Love the clipping of the freight train caboose when it's getting off the main rail on a siding.... Saw it tuesday, Exciting movie. I liked it very much. Though I do love trains, so half of it is just watching the trains from the cab. I'll buy the CD.
Rubberanvil Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Some producer saw the trailer for Cloverfield (30 million budget) and said "That's what I want- copy that and make it bigger!"While doing it with a smaller budget (20 million). Oh this going to be fun Sony Accuses 'Skyline' of... Making a Low-Budget Blockbuster Sony, the studio behind the $100 million alien invasion movie “Battle: Los Angeles,” is accusing the producers of a similar-themed movie of ripping off equipment and ideas for their lower budget production. The producers denied the charge to TheWrap and said the issue was really that they had made a low-budget blockbuster that was coming out before Sony's. Either way, audiences are going to be treated to two aliens-invade-Los Angeles movies in the next six months. But not if Sony can help it.
Skywalkre Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Interesting.... *goes to check local dailies to see movie sked*I'd save your money, Tomas. I was looking forward to a movie along the lines of ID4 where the aliens win, it's not even that. It's just... bad. It's barely 1h20m long (even though listed as 1h32m... I wasn't aware listed times included previews and credits) and of that not even 10m of it are filled with the military fighting against the invaders. The FX for the military part is alright at best (they completely butchered the F-22 model).

Archie Pellagio Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Saw "The American" last night. When it finished and the credits rolled there was this chorus of "Fuck that" "What a pile of shit" "Well that was a waste of fucking time" It reminded me a lot of 'Michael Clayton', one of those movies that is well made, dark and introspective, and it would've been great if it had that one little thing, you know, a story...

Damn, and Ebert loved that one. Guess I'll just scratch that off the list.

George Clooney played the same guy in Up In The Air only without lethality. Calling Mr. Typecast. What next, remaking Deathwish?

Archie Pellagio Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Just watched the Danish documentary 'Armadillo' about a platoon's tour in Helmand in 2009 and can't recommend it enough.
