Stuart Galbraith Posted March 6, 2024 Posted March 6, 2024 I can (just about) remember this coming out in 1978. Supposedly it started life as a theme for an abortive film project about the Baker street robbery, that eventually came to the screen as Jason Statham's 'The Bank Job.' I still think its spellbinding.

sunday Posted March 15, 2024 Posted March 15, 2024 Landsknecht marching song? Note the part on pidgin Spanish/Italian.
Stargrunt6 Posted April 15, 2024 Posted April 15, 2024 (edited) I do love traditional Mexican music. But I do not like the recent trend of narco corridos, corridos tumbados, and anything else that glamorizes narco culture. I like this song because it is of the former, in spite of being made famous again by the latter. Edited April 15, 2024 by Stargrunt6

Stargrunt6 Posted April 18, 2024 Posted April 18, 2024 So my favorite band, Houston's very own Khruangbin, has released another album. And as always, it's flawless from the first track to the last. Last week I saw they had their physical media for sale on bandcamp and from their website. Having already exceeding my entertainment budget, I decided to hold off. I check today: sold out. The moral of the story, site, is to keep buying stuff. Pour your favorite, curl up with your old lady and give this a listen.
sunday Posted April 29, 2024 Posted April 29, 2024 The barcarolle from the opera The Tales of Hoffmann by Jacques Offenbach. A beautiful piece in one of those faux improvised settings
Stuart Galbraith Posted May 7, 2024 Posted May 7, 2024 There is a TV series on the BBC right now, a Romanian Cold War Spy drama called Spy/Master, which is, in my view at least, after the first two episodes looking comparable to the BBC adaptation of Tinker Tailor Soldier spy. Anyway, the theme tune for this drama is this song. I dont know much about the artist. One could be critical and say they over manipulated the voice, but as the drama is set in the late 70's, and that ABBA used precisely this same vocal effect, the worst you can say is that it tries very hard to respect the period in which the drama is set. I love it personally.
