Guest Murph Posted January 23, 2002 Posted January 23, 2002 Hits stores today. My buddy has been playing the demo, and it takes A LOT from Saving Private Ryan. Very intense, excellent graphics, very lethal. If you like first person shooters, get this one.
Brad Edmondson Posted January 26, 2002 Posted January 26, 2002 Murph, Drop me an e-mail, I lost your address. Got the package Friday.
Guest Murph Posted January 27, 2002 Posted January 27, 2002 E-mail is down for some reason, ATT cannot find my account!
Smoke286 Posted January 28, 2002 Posted January 28, 2002 Have you tried playing it online yet. It is totally awesome, I uninstalled DFLW, and I use to play that on-line every day. But the game itself is awesome on single player
Brasidas Posted January 29, 2002 Posted January 29, 2002 Yea, they developed this game like a mile from my house, heh heh. I've been waiting for this one! Regards, Brasidas

It'll depend on the rest of your system, but I think it's safe to say no. It seems to like a bit of RAM as well, I have 192mb and only if I have 90%+ free will I not get stutters, I stuck in a 256mb stick the other day, ran smooth all the time.
Stefan Fredriksson Posted February 25, 2002 Posted February 25, 2002 Got the game a while back. Yes, a lot is taken from SPR, but is not Steven Spielberg listed as "producer" or something in the credits? Also got "Band of Brothers" (the book) last week, and finished it yesterday. Adds even more to the game. It is a good game, but feels a little restricted. I mean you can not even scale roadbanks sometimes. If I am not totally off there was a game for Playstation 1 a year back or so. And this is about the same thing, but with better graphics and new courses. Is multiplayer good? Or is Delta Force still better? In question of openness?Still a fun game though. Especially the Normandy-episode rocked hard!
Petteri Pöri Posted February 25, 2002 Posted February 25, 2002 It's a pretty good game, esp. the graphics and sounds are impressive, but IMHO it's too unrealistic. I mean c'mon, you almost have to spray a whole Thompson clip to kill a single enemy. The game is also too linear, leaving very little choice what to do and where to go. But the Omaha Beach landing was utterly awesome, very SPR:ish!

In it's defence, it's not as though it is marketed in the same class as Operation Flashpoint or Rainbow Six, it's marketed as competition to Return to Castle wolfenstien, and in the same class as the Day of defeat crowd. Also, the Ballistics modelling is better than many "realistic" shooters like SWAT 3 etc. And, for the germans at least, the bullet hits seem accurate enough, you fire one shot in the head and they die no questions asked, the SMG's are great for indoor environments, but out doors they aren't any good, so you pull out the BAR or Garand. The only major gripe I have with shooting, is the same for every shooter I play, aiming is impossible with anything other than the sniper rifle at half decent ranges. Most of the time you just spray and pray at anything, or if you want to do it precisely, it takes longer to aim than it does with a real rifle. And that blasted fog!
Jeff Posted March 3, 2002 Posted March 3, 2002 I just spent the afternoon at my brother's playing and watching him play it. He showed me the Omaha Beach mission and I found it very emersive. Yeah finding health packs/canteens (sounds like you're zipping up your pants when you use them) isn't realistic and it definitely pays to go for head shots as that drops the krauts in their tracks, but ducking and dodging your way through the water and going from shell hole to shell hole definitely get's the blood flowing. Looking down the beach and seeing others doing the same and few making it to the shingle, I had the merest hint of the terror and determination the real men must have felt. The last thing you want to do is to move forward into the MG-42's but if you stay put you'll die.
