Corinthian Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Are the 1/35 M-47 Patton kits by Italeri and Revell different or just the same? Revell box: Italeri box: Anyone has any idea if the Revell kit is a reboxed Italeri? Anyone built either kit? The review at Cyberhobby looks promising. http://www.cybermodeler.com/hobby/kits/it/kit_it_6447.shtml Thanks.
C.GILLONO Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Yes, the Revell offering is a reboxed Italeri kitHTH PS: I have not built it, sorry
Richard Lindquist Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Going to build one in ARVN colors, T???!! Ah, Le Char d"Ours!
X-Files Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Ah, Le Char d"Ours! I saw a book on them in the Kitsap County Library, y'know.
Corinthian Posted September 2, 2009 Author Posted September 2, 2009 Going to build one in ARVN colors, T???!! In Kitsap Militia markings, sport! (now where is that picture of M47s TonyE enhanced hehehe) C.Gillono: Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll get the Italeri kit instead (cheaper).
DougRichards Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 A model shop owner friend of mine once remarked that Revell has probably never had an 'original' Revell kit........
Corinthian Posted September 2, 2009 Author Posted September 2, 2009 Hehe he might be right. I wonder though if Revell's 1/35 Jagdpanzer is an original kit or a rebox. I am not aware of any previous Jagdpanzer kit. Same suspicions on their 1/40 HAWK and Nike Hercules kits, although the odd scale seems to indicate they are reboxed old kits.... Anyone has the Jagdpanzer kit? I've seen it sold at the LHS but the box is sealed and the proprietor won't allow me to inspect the goodies without first buying it.
RETAC21 Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 In Kitsap Militia markings, sport! (now where is that picture of M47s TonyE enhanced hehehe) C.Gillono: Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll get the Italeri kit instead (cheaper). I have the M47 sitting on my basement but without box (I got it as a collectionable in the 90s) but it would probably be more expensive to ship it from Spain to the Pillippines than to buy it outright.
Archie Pellagio Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 The old 80's era 1:100 aviation kits were exclusively revell weren't they? Shame it never caught on, a great scale for modern aviation, basically what 1:72 was for WWII aviation...A lot of their 1:72 stuff as well, no?
TonyE Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 (edited) The M-47 is one of the best kits Italeri ever made, even today it still hold up quite well. The 50 cal should (as in all Italeri kits featuring that weapon) be exchanged for something better. Now hear`s a snapedshoot from thre Kitsap Militia motorpool......M48 to ther left belong to ther III/Kitsap Militia (Reserve).... And, hear is a closedupshot off there turrent of a A-company tank! With ther migthy Kitsap eagle insignia! Edited September 2, 2009 by TonyE
ScottyB Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Paint it grey, add a black cross and model a figure to look like Robert Shaw, riding in the TC position! OK, its a bad joke about the movie "Battle of the Bulge. Scott

My Grandfather worked in the Detroit Tank Arsenal and gave me a small cast M-47 like on the Italian model kit when I was a kid. They gave them away to the guys that worked there as milestone markers. I say build it, and I'll build mine (when I get it), both in Kitsap County Militia markings, and then we post pix of our models here. TonyE kindly provided us with the reference pix already in this thread, that should give us a good start. Hannants has the Revell rebox kit on sale, a third less of the price. I can order it thru the LHS, but the LHS said discounted items are added 30% to the discounted price (I think it's for their profit). Hannants also lists the Italeri M47. Now, the Revell kit, discounted+30% will cost more than the Italeri M47 kit, so I'm getting the Italeri kit instead. I save on shipping since my Hannants order will be included with other orders from other local modelers, so the LHS gets a discount on shipping. I essentially get the kit almost without shipping costs. I'll order mine on November. Now, making those Kitsap decals would be the tricky part Edited September 3, 2009 by TomasCTT

Corinthian Posted September 3, 2009 Author Posted September 3, 2009 (edited) PM on the way. Make that 2 (I forgot to ask a second question in the first PM) EDIT: Tony, got a hi-res pic of that eagle insignia? Edited September 3, 2009 by TomasCTT

TonyE Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Hehe he might be right. I wonder though if Revell's 1/35 Jagdpanzer is an original kit or a rebox. It is an original and brand new Revell kit, but quality is so-so by modern standards, you can read a little about it here: http://www.track-link.net/forum/modelling_kits/8442
Paul G. Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Going to build one in ARVN colors, T???!! To go with the Panther in French colors.
Steven P Allen Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 A model shop owner friend of mine once remarked that Revell has probably never had an 'original' Revell kit........ Oh, doug, you know better than that! Revell produced THE original plastic kit. It has only been in the last coupla decades that kit swapping has become the norm.
DougRichards Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Oh, doug, you know better than that! Revell produced THE original plastic kit. It has only been in the last coupla decades that kit swapping has become the norm. Actually I always thought that hawk was the first US plastic kit manufacturer, just behind FROG (hose plastic kits were originally in acetate). Speaking of which, if it wasn't for Revell (and Novo) all those Frog kits would have dissappeared in the early 1970s. So i am gratefull to Revell for that. Same goes for Matchbox - now under Revell Germany.
DougRichards Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Revells first kit, as opposed to finished model, was a licenced model of the 1911 Maxwell 1/16 car, the kit being designed by Jack Gowland, around 1950. Even their first kit was some-one else's! Airfix enterd the model kit business in 1949, before Revell. Frog predated them both, with a range of plastic aircraft kits in its 1937/1938 catalogue. Hawk's first plastic kit was released in 1946.

The diorama base needs to include the front facade of the Kitsap County Library.
