I am a newbie on Rogue Spear - haven't played Rainbow Six. Just started playing Rogue Spear for, what, two weeks and have seen myself being addicted to it.

No, I am not asking for help in weening me out of this 'addiction.' I need help in Mission Four: Op Lost Thunder.

I always get killed. I have killed the enemy sniper in the church, took out the street patrols, everyone - I only get botched up in the rescue stage.

Any strategy tips? (no cheat codes allowed) Thanks!

"I think R6 was good, at least in single-player mode. Is RS better than R6?"

Most definitly. More features, better graphics, and some great missions. Mission 4 mentioned at the start is worth the price of the game alone in my oppinion. Its set in a bombed out city block in Kosovo with fog and rain pouring down. You can spot tangos from the steam of their breath if you keep a sharp eye out. Great atmosphere and very tense throughout. The rest of the missions are quite varied and some are pretty tough. If you liked R6 then you gotta try RS.

Let's see, for the final part of the mission there's, what, five or six guys to worry about?

One guy patrolling around the bombed-out church. He's cannon fodder, just slip in the alleyway as he passes and zap him from behind.

Two guys in the corners of the antechamber, guarding the entrance from the street.

One or two guys around the pews, with one of the hostages, guarding the bombed-out wall of the church. They have to either be gotten quickly or made to get out of the way, or they'll shoot the exposed hostage.

One or two guys in the back room with the other two hostages.

The best way IMO to go about it is to do both sides at once. Have one team positioned near the broken down wall (out of sight from the inside) while you take another team to the front entrance. Toss a grenade into the antechamber as you cue the other team to come in through the wall. They'll probably get the guys in the middle, if not, your team will pincer them.

That just leaves the two guys in the back room. They have no compunctions about shooting the hostages either, so you'll need to flashbang em before storming in. I suggest throwing the flashbang yourself and cueing the second team to charge -- the computer's not good at throwing grenades and it's a bit faster to have one team throw, one team charge than to do it both yourself.

It's a good idea to outfit the second team with SMGs, they'll need speed more than power.

If you'd like an example, I have a replay and saved plan of this misson done on the highest difficulty level with only the AI (no humans) up for download. - You'll need the patched v2.05 of RS to view the replay, but the plan will work for any version.

R6 vs RS: RS is a lot better. The missions are better, the AI is improved fairly well and the weapons handling is a little bit more strict, adding more emphasis to methods other than just the runfastshootfast of R6.

Mek's got the answer, use flashbangs or you'll never get them before they shoot the hostages. Just remember to move at the right time or you screw up your own vision(early) or they have time to recover(late). I loaded up on extra mags and heartbeat sensor and then found myself with no flashbangs and dead hostages. Nothing worse than spending forever getting into position only to hear a bang and the dreaded "mission failure"!

Thanks for the tips! I almost - ALMOST - finished the mission, 'cept that the two terrorists in the back room kill 'em hostages as soon as the flashbang touches down the floor. Damn! They're either too fast or I'm too slow. The plan I've made is ok - it's just the execution that goes sh1t. I'll modify it to make Red team do the hostage rescue on the last two while Chavez throws a flashbang. Thanks again!

On R6 v RS, I haven't played R6 but I here RS is a heluvan' improvement over R6. Better graphics, weapons, etc. Nice.

Anyone played RS: Urban Operations? Is there a campaign mode, too? Heck, I love being sniper!

I bought the Platinum pack which includes the Urban Ops CD. Urban Ops has the infamous Bunker level for online play. As for R6 vs RS, the range of movement is much better and allows for better tactics.

IT WORKED! THANK YOU ALL!!! I let blue (Chavez, et. al.) throw the flashbang and in goes red team. "Got 'im!" "Tangos down." Thanks to every one again!

If anyone wants to play this game online please contact me at roman_w@gbrener.org.il , I can't find any Israeli players

BTW, what's your prefered outfit for the 4th mission? Mine is:

MP5 - 10mm, silenced for everyone as primary;

.45 silenced as secondary

flashbangs to everyone

heart beat sensors to team leaders

grenades to the rest

Managed to do this in 4 tries, but every time I did it with m16s or other non silenced weapons I got the tangoes running on me and alerting the guys in the church, without that I managed to do everyone quietly and slip into the church, then get the guy aiming at the 1st hostage from behind a bench (took a few tries) then charging with handguns and flashbangs on the small room,

handguns are better there.

Highly recommend Urban ops. A much better terrorist hunt (50 terrorists), added urban maps, classic maps, and a mod switcher which is very easy to use. And of course, there is a campaign mode. The last mission on elite is very challenging.

If you want some mods check out the R6 mod vault: http://www.planetrainbowsix.com/modvault/entry/

I highly suggest downloading the Spetnaz mod and WW2 mod.

anyone want am Urban ops game look for KKH_Khan on the zone.

Usually i put on the spetnaz mod and bring 4 teams of two guys. Armament is all suppressed bizon2s for primary with varyags as secondary. Primary ammo and medium body armor for everyone. Locate the tangos on the map and give each team an alternate route to the cathedral. Run like hell, bust in and shoot up the tangos. Works like a charm when playing on veteran. The shoot-out in the street in front of the cathedral is quite spectacular.

Get the mods...check out Pie's Tactics at www.thewargamer.com for practically all of them. My personal favorites:

Lloyd's Weapons Mod V. 7-ridiculous amount of weapons, but has some true beauties, ie Ares Shrike (think SAW on an M-4 frame, great for heavy weapons indoors), Groza OTs-14-4A-03 silenced sb-machine gun with 7X zoom and AP rounds, M-4 SOPMOD my personal favorite, Tromix 50 Sledgehammer an M-16 chambered for .50 Action Express round

NATO 3/3.5 All the NATO and Warsaw Pact weapons you would expect, personal favorite here is the G-8, basically a HK-21 with a scope (it says it was carried by Delta operatives during Eagle Claw)

I usually use the MP5SD5 in hostage situations, Lloyd's Weapons Mod provides +P+JHP rounds which are a lot better then what RS gives you so you can practically always take down a tango with a 3 rd burst. If I am worried about extreme body armor (last mission of the Urban Ops campaign comes to mind) I shift to the UMP-45. In assaults, I try to keep to 4 man fire teams with 3 M-4 SOPMODs and an Ares Shrike or M-249. The leader also carries an M-203 and Heartbeat monitor. For snipers, the G-8 is a personal favorite, but the PSG-1 works really well too.
