oldsoak Posted May 2, 2004 Posted May 2, 2004 - G'day gents - just a quickie if I may be so bold - what are the best current kits for Merkava Mk3/4 ? and who offers the most correct shade of gray for Israeli tanks ?Apologies if this has been asked alreadymany thanks
Gennady I. Beregovoy Posted May 2, 2004 Posted May 2, 2004 Apologies if this has been asked already No problem. Not sure if there's a plastic kit of a Merk 4, but I only know there's an Academy's Merk 3 which looks pretty good, but I dunno how much accurate it is or what version of the Merk 3 it is, though. As for the Merk 4, Accurate Armor might have a resin kit of it. For the shade, try this site: http://idfmodelling.free.fr/article01.html Actually, I'd rather use the "if it looks right, then it is right" 'rule' (of course, "right" is pretty much relative hehehehe) in painting since color photos, weathering and other factors pretty much Try also www.waronline.org which has a page on the different Merkava versions and lots of pix.
Michael Eastes Posted May 3, 2004 Posted May 3, 2004 ModelMaster Acrylics makes an "Israeli Armor Sand Grey", which looks like the current shade to me. I would think most hobby shops carry the line, but check Squadron.com if you can't find it where you are. Edit: If you can't find it in the UK, I could probably get some here and send it over. I would also think Humbrol might be a good bet, since they seem to make every colour on earth. [Edited by Michael Eastes (03 May 2004).]
Jacques Posted May 3, 2004 Posted May 3, 2004 To the best of my knowledge, there is no Merkava iv kit out yet from anyone...and I have not heard any news of a kit to be released. I have heard the Academy Merk III is incorrect in some way, but I cannot see it in the kit I have. I do not have much experience with the IDF stuff, so my opinion of wether the kit is correct or not is a probably not the best!
oldsoak Posted May 4, 2004 Author Posted May 4, 2004 right, I've bitten the bullet and gone for an Academy Merkava in 1/35 bought off the net - this will keep me indoors and away from loose and licentious living for a few weeks - when it turns up !many thanks
