robbin Posted December 28, 2003 Posted December 28, 2003 I'm planning on building a T-80 model ( most preferably T-80BV ). Do you guys know where I could get my hands on such a beast. I've allready found some sites offering T-80U's ( by DML ) but looks like the BV version is gone everywhere! Next up I need some help on which aftermarket stuff would be best to buy?? Read some things about roadwheels and gun not being all to shiny on the DML kit?? Any help on any aspect of this building this tank is welcome!! Thanx in advance, Robbin
Gennady I. Beregovoy Posted December 29, 2003 Posted December 29, 2003 Hehe the inevitable answer to your initial query is: Try EBay. Jacques here as done quite a number of Soviet vehicles - including a T-80 (I think it was a BV or a U), so he'll know more. But he's a bit offline and will be back on the 3d of January. Alternatively, check out www.Armorama.com (not that I'm stealing the "thunder" of TankNet's own little Modeller's Forum... Hey, Jacques and I and others are there, too. )
robbin Posted December 31, 2003 Author Posted December 31, 2003 Guess what? Checked E-bay, made a bid on a T-80BV which was on offer and won it too! Has to come from Hongkong but who cares? Thanks for the tip, seems like the right place, right time story! Best regards, Robbin Reym
Jacques Posted January 4, 2004 Posted January 4, 2004 Hello Robin, as for getting a kit, Zvezda is currently offering the T-80BV that is made from the DML molds. So the kit is around. As for aftermarket, the kit builds up ok. For the BV version, the biggest help would be to rework the ERA blocks and the attachment equipment. Also, for a shameless plug, SP Designs offers new T-80 roadwheels and also a new turret for a T-80UD. Sergej also plans to offer a T-80U m1988 sometime in 2004. And the barrel can be reworked to look proper without having to spend $15-$25 on a new barrel.
robbin Posted January 4, 2004 Author Posted January 4, 2004 Thanks very much for the info. I'll definetly get those roadwheels for the T-80! Current stand is that I have a T-80UD new in the box and a T-80BV on the way, great feeling! Can't wait to begin work on both in the not to distant future! Thanks again and untill sometime soon, Robbin Reym
