I'd be surprised if there was much left of that truck after a few rounds.  I suppose that qualifies as a heavy technical😁

To be fair I expected the T-62 itself to recoil just a bit more than it seemed to during the firing footage.  No doubt that track to ground contact and the extra weight helped to compensate for that though.

Upgrade proposal presented by 103 Armored Repair Plant. The TPN-1-41-11 night sight is replaced by the 1PN-96MT-02, which has a thermal channel. Kontakt-1 ERA is installed in the sides, together with a more powerful engine.

Another sensor is installed on an extendable mast.

Old wine in new bottles.  Something similar was advertised 15 years ago. Just adjusted a little.  Will anyone buy it this time?

And a telescopic mast with optronics is really no big deal. Something like that belongs to a reconnaissance vehicle.   Tanks - as you know - shouldn't stand around for too long.

Well the Morozov/KMDB didn't seem to have any success with their so-called T-62AG which featured a 125mm gun installed and according to some, Nozh 3rd Generation ERA?

It did give me hope for a while that my personal favourite tank might have some future upgrade potential in it yet but that was seemingly misplaced.  I don't see this somewhat updated T-62M version faring much better.

Dont give up hope, I read something the other day that Russia hopes to keep this tank in service another 10 years. Presumably largely with the reserves, but still...

Well, it has always been technically possible to add all sorts of new gadgetry onto virtually any tank. The Uzbeks have recently contracted UVZ for an upgrade to their T-62s which includes 1PN96MT thermal sights, but the Uzbeks are still using their T-62s as main line tanks.

But considering what the purpose of strategic reserves are, there really hasn't been any point for either the USSR or present day Russia to upgrade any of their tanks in the reserves, especially when there are still plenty of units using unmodernized equipment in various regions, mainly in the Far East.

I thought that Russia kept the more modern equipment in the eastern military district facing China?

Great find interlinked, many thanks!

Wasn't that intention already in 2019?  Do you want to realize the project now?

Another T-62 in recent manoeuvres. In this case a T-62MV. Seen on a video about the training in Southern Military District.

T-62MV; not a common vehicle from all accounts?  I think one used to make an appearance every so often at IWM Duxford.  Probably owned privately like the ex-Iraqi BMD-1.  Just missing the glacis and side skirt ERA bricks on that one.

My impression is that T-62M is more common.

I had not seen this T-62M used in North Ossetia (238U)

Indeed the T-62M seems to be a far more common variant; although perhaps the T-62M1 being more common - the latter being without the ATGM capability but retaining all the other upgrades.

Some of the T-62's seen during the Ossetian conflict weren't even T-62M's but "vanilla" T-62's (such as the second vehicle in the above picture).  I do recall when seeing those, to being quite surprised as I was under the impression the T-62 would have gone through depot-level upgrading/rebuild and the new turret to have been installed with at least some of the BDD armour package being added?  Evidently not.

Yes it would seem that the T-62 will continue in service in some form or another for a while yet.

There was at least one model 62/72 "hybrid". I guess turrets were mixed during overhauls.

In the graphic below you can see the T-62s used by Russian and North Ossetian forces in 08/08/08. It has been updated with some new vehicles.

Upper tube might be 340mm S-25 rocket launcher tube:

Lower tube looks like someone has cut 115mm gun...

If not photomanipulated... it is one of the weirder finds.

Gun barrel was damaged by RPG hit and bent, but to keep tank in use as convoy  escort (where coax and AAMG were more then enough) gun was cut. Front part of the gun was welded to the leftover in order to enable stabilizer to work properly.
