Chris Gould Posted March 15, 2002 Posted March 15, 2002 Nato Green, Nato Brown, and Nato Black Are there offical verisons of this for winter or desert.
Warren K Posted March 17, 2002 Posted March 17, 2002 I have an Adobe pdf file for the camo scheme on a M1083 5 ton truck, and one of the data blocks shows this Color//Standard//Desert//Winter/Snow..1..//Black.....//Tan....//Black..2..//Green.....//Tan....//White..3..//Brown.....//Tan....//Brown So, I guess you could say the desert scheme is overall Tan ( Sand color, ala Desert Storm), and the winter scheme replaces Green with White. If you e-mail me, I'd happily send you the pdf document. Warren Kuntz

The polly scale acylics named NATO green, ....black, ...brown are all very good matches for a nearly freshly painted vehicle. [Edited by Jacques (17 Mar 2002).]
The Swede Posted March 17, 2002 Posted March 17, 2002 Does the US have a standarized scheme for their vehicles or is every vehicle painted differently? In Sweden there is painting instructions on how the pattern should be applyed to the vehicles so all vehicles of the same sort are painted the same.
Chris Gould Posted March 17, 2002 Author Posted March 17, 2002 Thanks for the offer, but MSNTV(WEBTV) can't use pdf. So there isn't really a "Offical" NATO 3 color Desert or Winter Camouflage pattern.
Warren K Posted March 18, 2002 Posted March 18, 2002 Chris, The file is marked "US Army", "Belvior Research, Development, and Engineering Center", "Approved for Procurement 92-06-24", and "US/CE Standardized Camouflage Painting Pattern For Truck, Cargo, 5 Ton, 6X6, MTV, M1083." I'm not sure how you would get more official unless you got your hands on some sort of camouflage painting doctrine document. I suppose you could say that the drawing applies only to US Army M1083 trucks, and not all NATO member country combat vehicles. I don't see why the US Army would specify Desert and Winter schemes for this truck which would be different in priciple from camo patterns for other tactical vehicles. On the other hand, I would believe that the US Army would permit commanders to apply camo schemes to suit local environmental conditions. But as for official Desert and Winter patterns, overall Sand for Desert and White in place of Green on the standard pattern seems to be a really good place to start for US Army vehicles. For The Swede, As far as I know the US Army follows the same practice of painting the same pattern on each type of vehicle, or at least documents how each vehicle should be painted. I'm certain there will always be free style camo pattern painters out in the wild; 18 year old with paint spray gun if you know what I mean. Warren
The Swede Posted March 18, 2002 Posted March 18, 2002 Thanks Warren.I know exactly what you mean.Been there, done that
