I've developed a taste for seaplanes of late, and obscure ones at that. Revell at some point did a 1/72 scale kit of the Beriev "Madge" (I've seen the box art, but nothing else. )

I've searched the hobby shops and eBay with no luck; most hobby dealers say they've never heard of it. Do any of you non-US types have any idea where one of these may be turned up? Or any other off-the-wall flying boats?

Well, I built one from Revell of Germany MANY moons ago, about 10 years ago...

Trumpeter is planning on doing a 1:48 scale BE-6 Madge this year, sometime. Could not find one for sale onthe web-sellers, so best bet is to keep trying on ebay.

Jacques-thanks for the info. Any idea when the Trumpeter item may see the light of day?

A 1/144 Beriev Be-12 is available from OKB, with photoetched parts.

A Beriev MBR-2bis is produced in 1/72 by SIGA models.

I don't know who the US distributor is, but the Australian distributor is NKR models at

http://www.nkrmodels.com.au/

Prices quoted are in Australian dollars. As a rough estimate, have the dollar amount and you will get the rough US $$ cost

No idea on the release dates for anything trumpeter... sometimes they will hold off on a project until the last minute, or they may ship the kit tomorrow...there is no real advance warning.

Michael, I just got around to reviewing my monthly flyer from Squadron Mail Order, and they have a 1/72 scale Be-4 from a Polish company called RPM, it is $5.96 USD this month on sale.

Never had any experience with this company, so I'm not really sure of the quality of the kit, but for 5.96, you haven't got much to lose.

Hi Michael,

Since I'm very interested in eastern European model kits; I have to pass you this link: http://www.gphobby.krakow.pl/air.htm

This is a great site with info on most eastern European model kit producers. You can see all the types of aircraft, ships and vehicles that those east-european brands have for sale. Worth visiting!

As for unusual stuff, here are a few in 1/72

Encore Yak-6 w/skis (also from Zvezda)

RPM Be-4 (mentioned earlier, I have this kit, it is pretty nice)

Revell DO-18 (german flying boat)and Ar E555 (non-produced german bomber)

Zvezda IL-4 Torpedoe Bomber

enjoy! (and tell your wife to quit glaring at me like that!)

Jacques- She's only glaring at me at the moment, but it's probably good that you are beyond range...

That bomber with the two I-16s slung under the wings is without a doubt the most Soviet-looking piece of equipment I've ever seen-I MUST build one...or two...
