A company that has raised hundreds of millions of dollars in an effort to ‘de-extinct’ woolly mammoths and other animals has claimed a breakthrough in its quest: the creation of hairier mice.

The gene-edited ‘woolly mice’ harbour a mix of mutations modelled on those of woolly mammoths (Mammuthus primigenius), as well as changes known to alter hair growth in mice, Colossal Biosciences announced in a 4 March press release and accompanying preprint1.

Colossal, which is based in Dallas, Texas, and is worth more than US$10 billion according to its latest valuation, says the woolly mouse represents an important step towards its goal of engineering Asian elephants — the mammoth’s closest living relative — with genetic changes for key mammoth traits. “The Colossal Woolly Mouse marks a watershed moment in our de-extinction mission,” said Ben Lamm, Colossal’s co-founder and chief executive, in the press release.

A resurfaced CIA document that was declassified in 2000 claims that the Ark of the Covenant was located by a remote viewer in 1988 and that US intelligence knows the current location of the biblical artefact.

The Ark, said to hold the Ten Commandments is described in the bible as a chest of wood and gold which also contains a pot of manna, as well as Aaron’s staff.

If one is looking for an ancient artifact that originated in the Middle East, first place to check would be the British Museum.

They never learn;

A research team led by the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde (IOW) was able to revive dormant stages of algae that sank to the bottom of the Baltic Sea almost 7,000 years ago. Despite thousands of years of inactivity in the sediment without light and oxygen, the investigated diatom species regained full viability.

On Tuesday, Colossal announced that its scientists have simultaneously edited seven genes in mice embryos to create mice with long, thick, woolly hair. They nicknamed the extra-furry rodents as the “Colossal woolly mouse.”

Recreating woolly mammoths isn't so bad (unless you are a farmer trying to defend your crop fields).

But I saw a YT video yesterday about mastodons. Those suckers would be a real menace to modern society;

The shoulder bone structure was massive and there was tons of muscle driving it. Heavier than an African bull elephant, in a shorter, stronger package.

NASA has been monitoring a strange anomaly in Earth's magnetic field: a giant region of lower magnetic intensity in the skies above the planet, stretching out between South America and southwest Africa.

This vast, developing phenomenon, called the South Atlantic Anomaly, has intrigued and concerned scientists for years, and perhaps none more so than NASA researchers.

The space agency's satellites and spacecraft are particularly vulnerable to the weakened magnetic field strength within the anomaly, and the resulting exposure to charged particles from the Sun.

The South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) – likened by NASA to a 'dent' in Earth's magnetic field, or a kind of 'pothole in space' – generally doesn't affect life on Earth, but the same can't be said for orbital spacecraft (including the International Space Station), which pass directly through the anomaly as they loop around the planet at low-Earth orbit altitudes.

South America forgot to pay their magnetic field bill?

Or did some archaeologist steal a Native American idol from a cave?

It's climate change, silly.  Human carbon footprint has distorted the magnetic field and created yet another natural disaster-in-the-making.  We're killing the planet in a whole new way!  No doubt, this weak filed is the result of the increase dependence upon electricity.  Ban it!  Demolish the generating plants!  Bring down the distribution grid!

A distressed woman stripped down to her birthday suit and allegedly assaulted airport workers in a viral freak-out caught on camera.

Samantha Palma allegedly stabbed two people with a pencil and bit a restaurant manager while parading around in the buff during a “manic episode” at the Dallas Forth Worth International Airport on March 14, TMZ reported.

I read a stat yesterday that roughly 50% of young women are on SSRIs. All this craziness with airline travel may be the result of SSRIs combined with booze.

Lot of buzz about their skintight catsuits (yeah, not a spacesuit people).

Nothing says Grrl Power like Mrs. Bezos showing off her camel toe and cleavage on the national news.

All things considered though, a less harmful form of glam tourism than getting railed on some 3rd world beach.

Some nabobs of negativity get worked up about the environmental costs of space tourism. I say, look at the upside: There's a small but non-zero chance to blow up at least a handful of them gazillionaire sociopaths.
