Ivanhoe Posted September 15, 2024 Author Posted September 15, 2024 How could this possibly end well? https://www.sciencealert.com/engineers-gave-a-mushroom-a-robot-body-and-let-it-run-wild Quote An interdisciplinary team of researchers from Cornell University in the US and the University of Florence in Italy took steps to find out, putting a culture of the edible mushroom species Pleurotus eryngii (also known as the king oyster mushroom) in control of a pair of vehicles, which can twitch and roll across a flat surface. Through a series of experiments, the researchers showed it was possible to use the mushroom's electrophysiological activity as a means of translating environmental cues into directives, which could, in turn, be used to drive a mechanical device's movements. "By growing mycelium into the electronics of a robot, we were able to allow the biohybrid machine to sense and respond to the environment," says senior researcher Rob Shepherd, a materials scientist at Cornell.

For comparison purposes, the ammonium nitrate that blew up at the port of Beirut was 2750 tons. So imagine if the MV Ruby blows, seems like tactical nuke levels of excitement.

Quote The wildly destructive rodents’ presence is cause for widespread concern. Now that they’ve made their way into the delta, which helps channel water to cities and farms across the entire state, it will be easier for them to disperse into other regions. Once there, they’ll continue tearing through wetland habitat, lead to significant losses in crops, and “weaken levees to the point of failure” as a result of their burrowing, Slattengren explained in an email. sunday Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 (edited) UK woman terrified by a Polish home intruder that did some domestic chores. https://www.latintimes.com/terrified-woman-forced-flee-home-after-stranger-breaks-cleans-floor-takes-out-trash-561287 Quote A UK woman was left confused and shaken after a stranger broke into her house, rearranged items, emptied the trash bins, and even cooked a meal for himself, according to a report Damian Wojnilowicz, 36, admitted in court on Thursday that he entered the woman's home on July 16 in Monmouthshire, Wales, without permission, while she was away at work. Upon her return, the victim found several items out of place and noticed a few household chores had been taken care of, according to BBC. She discovered her laundry hung out to dry, refilled birdfeeders, cleaned floors, groceries put away, the recycling bins emptied, and a note written by Wojnilowicz. The message read, "Don't worry, be happy, eat up and scratch." The unnamed woman also found that Wojnilowicz had consumed items from her kitchen, including a bottle of wine. I've read that other ladies have expressed interest about meeting that intruder. Torilena May Fields, 32, was arrested on Oct. 9 following an 11-hour standoff with state police after a worker found a disemboweled human torso in the backyard of her mother’s home. Fields has since been charged with the murder of her mother, Trudy Fields, after she emerged covered in blood from the Mount Olivet, Ky. home where investigators found a charred and severed head, hands, feet and forearm in a “still warm” pot in the oven, Fox56 reported.
