MikeD Posted November 9, 2001 Posted November 9, 2001 Does anybody know what the new standard Russian/CIS AFV colour scheme is? I've seen quite a few examples painted in light tan/sand, with dark green camouflage stripes overpainted - would this just be for units stationed on the Steppe? Thanks in advance Mike
MikeD Posted November 12, 2001 Author Posted November 12, 2001 Thanks Stuart! Gave you seen Bob's Cheiftan book yet?
MikeD Posted November 13, 2001 Author Posted November 13, 2001 There was a review of it in Novembers' edition of Soldier magazine. The publisher is Crowood, if that helps
Jacques Posted November 13, 2001 Posted November 13, 2001 Best bet is to get the Concord books of either the T-80 or BMP to get a good look at the cammo. I have read that it is full coat of regular dark green with overlay of sand and then small patches of black in a sort of "three-pronged line", kinda like a three toed bird foot. If you see pics, you will know what I mean. Most of the other color schemes, to my knowledge, are short lived schemes based on units moving (like the T-80's that left germany in the early 90's) and the company paint schemes used at ordinance shows to make the tank stand out. I believe that only three schemes are authorized right now. Woodland: green, sand, blackArtic(siberia): green, blackDesert: either straight sand or sand, brown. hope this adds to the confusion
MikeD Posted November 13, 2001 Author Posted November 13, 2001 Just found these at the GHQ models site: This seems to be what everyone has been describing - thanks guys!
Bob Krenzel Posted November 14, 2001 Posted November 14, 2001 The Russians use the tan/dark green color scheme in the Balkans. If you want an accurate model, though, make sure you add lot's of peeling paint and oil coming out of the exhaust.
Jacques Posted November 14, 2001 Posted November 14, 2001 Sorry, i'm stupid. The artic scheme should be green and WHITE! The GHQ pic seems to be ok, but a little overdone on the black in my opinion. Here is a link to my own web-page, go to the bottom with the ZSU-23-4, that will give you the best idea I have of the scheme. It is modified off of pics fo the T-80 in the Concord book to fit the ZSU-23-4. http://members.tripod.com/saammodels/Pictu...uilds/index.htm [Edited by Jacques (14 Nov 2001).]
Jacques Posted November 16, 2001 Posted November 16, 2001 i don't know of any individual Reactive armor sets. I know that AEF Designs makes "correct" T-72 turrets which have the R.A. with them. I have only seen the Generation 2 Kontact-5 reactive armor from them though. Don't be too hard on yourself for your kits either...I have a whole cabinet of stuff from about 8 years ago that I just laugh at whe i see it now. But it got me to where I am. You want to know the secret to improvement? an airbrush with a compressor, a good supply of premixed paints, and actually going out and using the stuff without fear. Almost any mistake can be corrected, or you can always get another kit and try again if things really get messed up.
Wolf Werther Posted November 24, 2001 Posted November 24, 2001 This seems to be what everyone has been describing - thanks guys![/i] Well, not exactly. The yellow is far to strong. I add a 2S19 Ari in "true color". regards Wolf
Slater Posted November 26, 2001 Posted November 26, 2001 That looks a lot like the old US Army MERDC schemes of the 1970's. Any relation?
