What was your worst model building experience?

I remember my first kit. A 1/144 scale F-14A Tomcat Tarps VF-84 by Dragon. Thought the decals were stickers. Used super glue to assemble the parts. Wrecked the canopy completely. Lost a sidewinder or two. Wings broken. But that could pass as an excuse for it was my first kit.

Perhaps the worst was the Titanic. Lost a few (read: a lot) of pieces. Broken some also. The most I could do was cement the hull halves together and paint the lower part red. It's still in my cabinet, a reminder of what could go wrong.

I had bought a model which I was very much looking foward to building. I began the project as usual and then retired. I placed the uncompleted model back in the box along with the paints and glue. A week later I opened the box and found to my horror that the glue had been squezed out all over everything, ruining the kit.

Having my mother sell my entire collection of 1/48 planes for a dollar when she had a garage sale while I was at work.

PS: She also sold over 100 Playboy magazines in pristine condition (no pictures or centerfolds missing) for $1. Total, not each.

Matricide, anyone?

Lo these many years ago, my mother left the window to my bedroom open one day after cleaning the room. It was a windy day, and my 1/96 scalle U.S.S. Constitution was on the chest of drawers in front of the window. The sails functioned as designed.

*sigh*

Well my first kit is one...the old Revell Arizona....wow what a disater...lets just say it looks like the actual one after the 7th..and my other one which was a few kits later was the Revell Saratoga...put to much glue on the hull and flight deck...all 10 fingers have glue prints on it somewhere...broke most or all of the antenna's and put the island on a tilt.....thank God that's all behind me...

I got a 1/96th scale model of the Cutty Sark from my girlfriend for a birthday present. I don't want to think about how many hours I spent on the rigging alone but the end result was very satisfying. Probably one of my best efforts. Anyway about 3 months later I moved out on my own but left the model in my old room to be moved at a later date. It was about 6 months later when I finally decided to get it. I open the door and almost went ballistic. It seems my mother had caught a couple wild cats and was hoping to tame them. For some reason I will never understand, she put them in my room. Cats and rigging definitly don't go together. She never could figure out how I could get upset over some "stupid model". Those cats never did get tame. In about 4 or 5 spots they clawed the drywall down to the studs and insulation before my mom finally let them go.

don't tell me about mothers and models. I went half through the Heller *Victory* when I decided to take a break. Well, left the already sorted parts in three small shoe boxes when my mother decided to get rid of those silly plastic pieces laying around everywhere. Never finished it as you can imagine.

Two years ago I bought this ship again, still in box in original condition and I decided to build it when taking a year pause from work.. smile.gif

Women just do not understand the tender relationship between a male and plastic...

Um, Chris, I'd put that model in a time capsule set for about 21 years. You do have twins incoming, and I think that "year off" will be postponed.

Had a similar problem. When I was a teenager and living at home. I had a large collection of 1/25th scale car models. We also had two pitbulls. Whenever my mom had company visit, she would put the dogs away in a room. Anyway they were well behaved dogs, and we never had trouble with them. Company came over and she put one of the dogs in my room. Normally this wasn't a problem. But one day things were a bit different. I came home, saw that we had company and went to my room. When I opened the door, there was the dog, on my bed, with a 49 Ford coupe doing it's rendition of a milkbone. Around her were several other cars which were now mostly chewed up pieces of plastic. (Seems she really liked the taste of vinyl tires) Although I hollered out loud, I had this mental picture in my head of Godzilla-dog biggrin.gif
