vardulli Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 A British nuclear-powered submarine has been damaged after it hit rocks in the Red Sea, defence officials say. HMS Superb hit an underwater rock on 26 May and damage to its sonar equipment forced it to surface. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7422774.stm
Lampshade111 Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 (edited) Well, it could have been worse. Edited May 27, 2008 by Lampshade111
Archie Pellagio Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 (edited) So how many Trafalgar's haven't crashed into underwater rock formations this year? So was it the tracing paper to blame? Or mabey the crayons?I told you to use Blue-Green for mountains, not Green-Blue!!! Edited May 28, 2008 by Luke_Yaxley
Marek Tucan Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 Seem to be a lot of subs running into things lately. And surviving. Which is a Good Thing.
Praet Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 So how many Trafalgar's haven't crashed into underwater rock formations this year? HMS Superb is a Swiftsure. If I remember correctly, she is to be decommissioned in the course of 2008 or 2009 anyway.
Hellfish6 Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 Well, it could have been worse. It wasn't hijacked by Somali pirates. Yet.
Coldsteel Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 Seem to be a lot of subs running into things lately. It probably just hit another one of these non-Euclidean intrusions into normal space. Or possibly the earthquake in China had some unforeseen consequences on distant underwater topology. Certainly nothing to worry about.
DesertFox Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Reading "Silent Steel" and collisions / groundings seem to be pretty common among US SubmarinesIt sounds like the Sea Wolf (SSN-575) would have been lost if it was not for SUBSAFE modifications
T19 Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Well I hope the Minister of Defense in Canada does not answer the phone when the MOD calls saying it has a great deal on some gently used subs...been there done that, have the subs
Jim Martin Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 Well I hope the Minister of Defense in Canada does not answer the phone when the MOD calls saying it has a great deal on some gently used subs...been there done that, have the subs Have they been allowed to go operational since the unfortunate occurence?
