Tim the Tank Nut Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Last night I decided it was time for a road march so we are going to take part of the collection of WW2 military vehicles to Tennessee and try to retrace the path of the Tennessee Manuevers of 1942.We'll drive the M3 Scout Car and the CCKW352 to Nashville (200 miles) and then follow the manuever route (another 150 miles or so) with the M20, the M3 halftrack, the WC 3/4 ton Dodge, and some jeeps. It should be fun. Here's the rub,I looked through my books at home and didn't find any detailed information about the Tennessee Manuevers. Everything I have is too general to plan a route. I did some google searching this morning and didn't find much better but I am not a google wizard like many here. What I would like to find is some copies of the WW2 maps or orders that list the routes taken or at least something to base our journey on.Any information would be great,I did find out that Patton had an HQ in Lebanon TN and the building is still there. So is the bank that held the army payroll. Also, it seems that there is a military training ground in the area that is now a public park but I don't have any particulars on that yet.I've plenty of time to get it together as I am looking at September for a launch date.Five hundred miles or so in a WW2 2 1/2 ton GMC ought to be a lot of fun. I figure to "attack" the town of Lebanon (with their permission of course). Maybe scout it out with the M3 and M20. If all goes well we will add more vehicles to the mix but I don't think we will take tanks because of budget issues.

Jim Martin Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Just pointing out the obvious, but it is quite possible some, much? of that is now under water. ?? I thought TVA did most of the damming and flooding prior to WWII.
Tim the Tank Nut Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 There appears to be a large part of the original area still open. The state of TN did a commemoration some years back on this very idea.We could end up with a lot of vehiclesOne of my team is already talking about taking tanks down there and doing a hundred miles or so on the tracks. http://tennesseeencyclopedia.net/imagegall...hp?EntryID=S015

Tim, for support talk to the guys what own Deuces in the area. I'm sure, if I have time, I'd be willing to assist with some logistics if you guys would like it. Also, talk to a local fuel supplier or two, you might be able to get sponsorship so you could run the armor 'on the cheap'. Hmm, I wonder if bringing my Dingo would be possible. This gonna be a warmish event? Any space for commonwealth vehicles?
Tim the Tank Nut Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 September ought to be warm enough,I think logistics wise we can self transport a lot.I bet the tanks will end up staying home if I had to guess. At $1000 per fill up I can't imagine sponsors doing too much of that. I don't know what we could do with a Dingo but I will try to think of something. Any suggestions would be fine by me. I thought that cross country thing was in '09?
BP Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Just pointing out the obvious, but it is quite possible some, much? of that is now under water. They're gonna need some DUKWs then.
