Does anyone have any information on these? I'm trying to replicate them for re-enacting purposes and I'd like to have them look correct for the purposes of appearance for display and the like.

A friend here in Toronto, Canada has one mounted on his restored Universal Carrier. If you still need it, exactly what info do you require ?

I've got pictures of the damned things but think I can find them? Anyway, all they look like are bloody great cannisters, launched with the ballistite cartridge from the smoke discharger; I have CRS when it comes to how they ignited, but it will come back to me. I'll keep digging.

Well, I know they're ignited by the ballistite cartridge going off and shoving a bunch of burning powder right up inside the unit. There was apparently a prime composition to get them burning.

I'm trying to make up representative examples out of cardboard that we can launch at demonstrations and WWII reeneactments for the public.

Well, in this case it's pretty simple and it'd be off angle from the viewing public. We routinely have cannons going off, blank fire machine guns and I've even seen some groups with flame throwers for fire power demos.

Of course the coolest thing we've seen so far is a launchable PIAT round that uses a nerf head and a cut down shotgun shell as a propelling charge off of a very slightly modified PIAT. The owners demonstrated it to the germans at an event and when their man caught it with his arms twice all the tommies were chuffed. The Germans approved it but were chagrinned at the accuracy.

Still, we're pretty careful and we're usually at the bigger events where the public is involved AND their liability coverage (The Reading Air Show for example) should cover us over and above our groups own liability coverage. Probably the most unusual event is the convoy and improvised battle that we have in downtown Reading. We drive 60 or so WWII vehicles into town and then, park and pile out to then have a blank fire battle in the middle of town. Then we call cease fire and wander round downtown, armed to the teeth with WWII weapons, chat with cops and wander into restaurants for lunch. All the while talking with the public who gather for the interesting change of pace to lunch in the middle of the office/financial area of Reading.
