I know there was a bit of a stink in the late 60s, when the CIA (who were using Pilatus Porters in Air America) used agents diguised as pilatus employees in Thailand and possibly Vietnam. Caused a bit of a stink when it came out, I gather Pilatus was highly annoyed since it caused them to lose a lot of contracts in the region. I must get another copy of the book 'Air America'. I rather stupidly loaned it out and never got it back. Suffice to say maintaining the moral high ground and staging effective intelligence operations strikes me as an unhappy mix.

Stuart, it might not have crossed your radar, but the US Mission used a Pilatus Porter in a similar manner to the Chipmunk used by BRIXMIS

From open sources (i.e. could be 100%, could be 1%) - there was a completely different mindset between US and UK on "types" for HUMINT, despite the interconnection during and after WW2.

I'm just finishing Ike's Spies by Ambrose and hitech and political intrigue seems to be the hallmark of the CIA during Ike's POTUS days.

Not too much info on direct spying but book was written in '82 before the Wall came down. Ike ran a tight ship as in keeping a close tab on major projects.

It seems some of the management techniques he employed would of helped the U.S. in the years leading up to 2003.
