ShotMagnet Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 Turns out I'll be having prime rib, with some friends. As I had expected to be dining out of a can, this has to be the nicest present I'll be getting this year. Shot

As I had expected to be dining out of a can, this has to be the nicest present I'll be getting this year.Shot tell me about it! my dad informed me last week that i am no longer invited to dinner christmas day. so i had to rush to arrange a christmas dinner at mine. With my brother who was also uninvited! and a couple of my friends, one of which's family decided to go on holiday and not invite him, the other just plain cant stand his parents. I would of said the more the merrier but your a bit far away and we dont know each other that well. anyway i will be cooking pork roast (2 joints!), with goose fat roasted potatoes, peas, mushrooms, onions, stuffing and yorkshire puddings. i guess it will be a traditional english roast.
nitflegal Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 Since I'm on-call tomorrow and going in to get the techs out and home ASAP (I loathed managers on Holidays that stay at home unless something went dramatically wrong while everyone else had to truck in and work) we're doing Christmas dinner today and tomorrow will be "Jewish Christmas dinner" with our eldest daughter's best friend's family (Chinese food). Peel and eat shrimpVarious cheeses and crackersSouthwestern sweet potato soup Ceasar salad with anchoviesPotato pan rolls (rising as I type)Pot roast with new potatoes, carrots, mushrooms and onionsMashed potatoes for my brother (his favorite holiday food, hands down)Apple brown betty and vanilla bean ice cream4 different bottles of wine (one white with the soup and the rest red)Eggnog w/w-o spiced rumGlenlivetLinsor torte cookies (God knows when we're getting them in the oven after dinner) Matt
scj1014 Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 Christmas dinner... We have a family tradition of steamed shrimp, fresh raw veggies, various cheeses, bolognas, crackers, homemade cookies and fudge on Christmas Eve, for a family get-together. Christmas day dinner will be a baked ham dinner with all the trimmings.

DougRichards Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 Lunch at a friend's place: Cold slices of turkey and ham, prawns (shrimp), salad, mangoes, cherries, avocadoes, with some Traminer Reisling to wash it down. Then crackers and cheese, perhaps a little fuit cake. Having brother and sister 'out-laws' over for Boxing Day lunch, similar to above but add lobster. For a summer lunch there is little that beats prawn and avocado served together with a nice glass of white. It can get to around 90°F 35°C here on Christmas Day - so the idea of a full hot roast dinner is something that has gone out of fashion. Besides, if you want to go for a swim after lunch a roast dinner just sits a bit heavy for enjoying other attractions of a Sydney summer.
Harold Jones Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 Baked Ham, Mashed Sweet Potatoes and steamed Brocoli at the Jones house this year. It's just my wife and I so I'm keeping it small.
Hans Engstrom Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 Matt, tomorrows breakfast will be an omelette with smoked salmon and smoked eel,
Michael Eastes Posted December 25, 2007 Posted December 25, 2007 We'll be dining on grilled lamb, Middle Eastern-style, and an Armenian wedding pilaf, for the main dishes, with plenty of desserts and other side-dishes. Yesterday, a friend and I drove over to Pacific City, to the Pelican Pub and Brewery, and picked up some of their seasonal ale to go with Christmas dinner. We also had catch-of-the-day fish and chips (the fish is usually within a few hours of having been in the ocean), and of course a pint of their finest to go with it. I love living in a state with lots of fresh seafood and good micro-breweries.

Today, I prepared roast beef cooked rare on the rotisserie along with garlic and horseradish mashed potatoes, kernel corn, an au-jus gravy and roasted mushrooms stuffed with pork sausage. For dessert my Daughter cooked an apple crisp that was hot from the oven and served with vanilla bean icecream. There was also micro brewed beer for my sons and some truly atrocious chianti for yours truly.
