I love 'em. I really do. In retrospect, some of the best meals I've ever had have come between two slices of bread. Pretty much any kind of sandwich at that. Going from the ones that I can immediately recall, the only one that I'd pass on would be a Reuben, and for no other reason than that I don't like sauerkraut.

That said; that's about the only sandwich I'd turn my nose up at.

And of course I have my favorites. Primus inter pares is the ham sandwich, on Russian rye, with either Swiss or Cheddar, and Dijon mustard. The roast beef sandwich places in the same group, so does the good ol' PBJ.

Sandwiches. I love 'em. I really do.

Amen brother, anything between two fresh (literally that day) pieces of bread is always good. :)

A local deli bakes their own bread at 6AM so sometimes I grab a roast beef or poorboy for breakfast. Ummm! :)

Whats a poorboy?

But i concur sandwichs are good!!!! mmmm my favourite is tomato puree instead of butter or mayo(i guess thats a little weird, i have to home make them) fried Bacon (smoked is best i find) Fried egg, and fried onions(usualy fried with sunflower oil but sometimes i use olive or ground nut).

Originally it's a sandwich made from the leftovers, so it would be something like a slice of ham, then roast beef, turkey, chicken and then a slice of American cheese, then Swiss and what ever else you've got. Add mayo, mustard and some other condiments. Of yeah it's also cheap, hence the name. :)

Here's the traditional definition:

I couldn't agree more. My girlfriend makes the best sandwiches I've ever tasted. We joke that if everything goes tits up then at least we can open a sandwich shop. After sampling many of her wares, I've come to the conclusion that what makes the best sandwhich is an evenness of taste. When I make a sandwich it's pretty much flung together, which means that in each bite you never know what you're gong to get. But when my girlfriend makes them, there's an evenness and consistency that I think is an essential ingredient in any superlative sandwich.

My favorite was a Jason's deli creation:

The Friends and Livers

Pastrami and liverwurst with mustard and red onions on rye. You could only eat half at a time. And they gave you hot garbage breath. But very, very tasty.

Number two has to be a Muffaletta.

Hell, a makeshift one that has a thin slice of ham nuked, white bread, and sliced cheddar is enough for a snack. Even really cold cold cuts, old white bread and some ketchup would do.

I prefer my sandwiches cold. Hot ones are too soggy IMO. I often get strange looks when I tell them to not heat the sandwich. I find they are more filling when cold.

BTW, how does one exactly eat a Dagwood without the benefits of comic-abilities?

You gotta smash it. Sometimes when I make a sandwich at home I'll put it on the cutting board and gently press down on it with my whole open hand, otherwise I'm not sure I could get my mouth around it.

That said, if I were forced to eat only one type of food for the rest of my life it'd be sammiches. :D
