WWII with LCACs

Well, landing on the lagoon side avoided the strongest defenses, including most of the shore batteries. Betio renained too small to have an undefended beach. AAV-7, a 1972 vehicle, would be very handy in WWII, as would almost all other arms of the 70s....

 

I was wondering because the AAV-7 is so much bigger whether it might have simply been a bigger target. Then again, when swimming, the silhouette would still be rather low*, and the overhead armor would be appreciated.

 

*Relying on memory, the freeboard is not much more than the early amtracs.
