DesertFox Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 What are people's favorite diet sodas? I find I like Diet Pepsi better than Diet Coke. I also find that Diet Cherry Pepsi is even better. For some reason, I find fountain diet sodas to not be as good as the bottled or canned ones.
Harold Jones Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 I think they all suck, but find that diet coke is the one I can tolerate. The funny thing is that back when I drank regular pop I was a pepsi drinker. Since I gave up drinking regular pop 8 or so years ago I mostly I stick to unsweetened ice tea and water.

Apaarently diet soda's can actualy be worse for you than the "real thing"
DesertFox Posted December 9, 2007 Author Posted December 9, 2007 Apaarently diet soda's can actualy be worse for you than the "real thing" 12 teaspoons in a single can?
superfractal Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 12 teaspoons in a single can? Well the argument is that the sweetners have an effect on the human body for a start and can cause harm to the body, plus they cause the body to "go in search" for sugar. The sweetners fool the body into thinking there is sugar but when it doesnt find any the body doesnt stop there, it will instead take in more sugar from anything else you eat within a certain period of time. And it will infact increase your craving for sugar. Thats the theory but im not a scientist so i can only rely on what i have read, this article is interesting http://www.mcmanweb.com/article-110.htm.

So, you control your intake.......that is all I can suggest. Eat only about 60 grams of carbs per meal. Effectively, a non diet soda consumes all your meal carbs though.

DesertFox Posted December 9, 2007 Author Posted December 9, 2007 (edited) True but then there's the issue about the chemicals possibly causing brain damage etc. That study is over three years old...some studies have 100 times the dose you will get by drinking diet sodas and the rats still live a normal life span. You can find someone against anything. Even Saccharine is really safe at normal levels. Your choice is what seemed to be a manageable risk with sugar substitutes, way too much sugar, or water. If you can drink only water, hey great but I can't Edited December 9, 2007 by DesertFox

If you can drink only water, hey great but I can't True but it depends who funded the studys, and of course rats arnt humans so that doesnt always mean much. Besides there is still the issue with the sweetners increasing the bodys craving for sugar which effects later sugar intake. The latest study i read claimed that people were better of in the long run drinking full sugar soda than diet for the aforementioned reasons. Either way isnt wasnt me that conducted the study so i dont know either way lol

I have switched fully to diet sodas and I don't find some super craving for sugar which some studied seem to describe. It took a bit of time to get used to diet sodas but for the most part your taste buds get used to it. To be honest, I consider these diet meals, Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig, to be a waste. You can simply control your intake. Problem is that sodas are a huge part of the carbs you are allowed for a single meal. Problem is that I find that the fountain drinks still don't taste good and wanted to see what others think? I am curious if it is common of if it is just me? Edited December 11, 2007 by DesertFox

I think willpower is the key in this situation, something i have a lack of to and besides i only heard about the results from tv so i cant attest to it being accurate. I just thought it would be ironic if they were worse for you than the regular versions.

My main thing is that I like some taste in my fluids, cannot drink just plain water constantly. Biggest other item I have to generally avoid other than sodas is Pasta......for example having green beans instead of spaghetti last night. Sandwiches, use a wheat bread with a lower amount of carbohydrates. It is a bit more expensive, true. Also instead of two sandwiches, have one with perhaps a bit more meat.

I have to with my blood sugar having to be controlled. I need my caffeine as well and used to drink a lot of regular sodas. I like tea as well (especially iced) but don't really care much for coffee (and yes, I am an American ). You could try Splenda in your coffee for at least some reduction in sugar. There is very little last difference between Splenda and sugar. In the future, there may be some new sweeteners such as Stevia as well
mikegolf Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 I am a Diet Coke fan, but I do enjoy a Diet Pepsi from time to time. Diet Dr. Pepper is an affront to God himself.
scj1014 Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 Hi... I usually drink Diet Coke when I drink fountain soda, but prefer Diet Pepsi in cans and bottles. Can't stand Dr. Pepper in any configuration. I usually drink about two sodas a day during the work week, one on the way to work and one on the way home. I usually drink iced tea or lemonade at home when its hot outside and Earl Grey from fall to spring. Don't like coffee, either. I used to drink a lot of RC Cola with lemon once upon a time. I haven't seen it in years.
nitflegal Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 I'm a fan of Diet Coke in the can and Diet Coke with lime if it's in a bottle. Matt
Hans Engstrom Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 Is there such a thing as decent Diet Root Beer? Since I can barely get the real stuff here, I'd like to know before ordering something form the import store.
Old Tanker Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 I don't drink diet soda. I do drink Pepsi and A&W Root Beer.
swerve Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 They all taste disgusting, especially if (like me) you have the "saccharine tastes revolting & leaves a horrible, long-lasting aftertaste" gene. If I want a sugar-free, alcohol-free drink with a bit of fizz, I drink sparkling water. I mix it with fruit juice if I want sweetness & fizz. Same with low-fat dairy products. Horrible, thin-tasting slop. I prefer food with a bit of body. And funnily enough, I'm not fat. A former colleague of mine steadfastly maintained that diet soft drinks & low-fat foods make people fat. He cited in evidence the fact that all the people he saw consuming them were fat.
