I am here trying to google-fu this and failing repeatedly, anyone know where it can be found?

I googled for "CFE holdings". Try this link here:

http://www.fas.org/nuke/control/cfe/cfebook/ch3.html

These are the declared national CFE holdings in November 1990 (NATO, Warsaw Pact).

Thanks, I got that already, but the actual data includes detail unit by unit of the holdings, including the type of weapon (for example, it would break out M1s and M60s rather than just tanks) for the CFE area.

I'm not sure that data is actually required to be submitted by the signatory states. CFE defines only limits to general (although very specific) unit categories; armor, aircraft and artillery.* Until CFE II there weren't even country specific limits, but those were left for the two groups of nations, or alliances if you will, to decide internally. CFE II established national limits, but again the categorizations remained the same. An M1 is an MBT just as an M60 is, and the required data is only for MBTs in general. Information of specific units might be shared as well, but more likely under different agreements that were spawned after or in conjunction with the CFE (such as Open Skies).

* Actually five main categories with several sub-categories, differentiating between MBTs, IFVs and APCs for instance.

Exel,

Nope, your wrong. There are three main sets that are submitted.

1) Unit-by-unit holdings of each MODEL of equipment by each signatory nation.

2) Unit-by-unit holdings of each model of equipment by location (name of city and Latitude/Longitude)

3) Unit-by-unit holdings of each model of equipment by Vehicle serial number (i.e. if there are 54 M1s in a US Armor Battalion, all 54 will be listed individually by serial number).

I know because I have No. 1 and No. 2 for the Soviet Army and I have seen references to No.3 on the Defense Threat Reduction Agency web site (they're the agency responsible for conducting the inspections in the former USSR).

Good luck trying to get NATO's. It's a real pain in the butt just trying to get a copy of the Soviet Army one (bureaucratic run arounds).

I would send out multiple FOIA requests to the following agencies (saves time and maybe you can nail down the location of the information).

1) Defense Threat Reduction Agency

2) US Department of Defense

3) US Joint Chiefs of Staff (I think the J-5 section)

4) US Department of State

5) US Defense Intelligence Agency

Some kind soul sent me many moons ago the exchange of 1996, so they are available, somewhere...

I'm going on one year since I submitted a FOIA request to State for pretty much the complete 1) and 2) above. They told me they'd get back to me in another year or 2... seems they have to clear the data's release through multiple US agencies and then get the submitting nation's consent too.

If anything ever shows up I'll let people here know...
