Okay, so when The Taliban take over as the Government of The Islamic Republic of Pakistan, i'll buy you a beer...

In fact, i'll post incriminating pictures of me staged with all manner of farm animals.

Actually, i'll not only do all that, but i'll even throw in a blowjob for you, as well as show the secret location of iraq's WMD's...

Thanks for the offer of the BJ, but I am already married.....

Plus I would have to report you to PETA for the other stuff.

Make the beer Guiness and you have a deal, although if you say "Do you want a good head on that" I will get worried.

Is it as silly as the Taliban trying to take over the whole of Afghanistan? ...

The Taliban are very much a Pashtun organisation, & the Pashtun are the largest ethnic group in Afghanistan. But they're a small minority of Pakistanis, except in the NWFP.

What happened to all those naysayers who said that Pakistan would be a stable country and it was all right for them to receive sophisticated weapons and that with those weapons, they would use them against the insurgents  Yeah riiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Nothing some carpet bombing followed up by a brutal suppression campaign couldn't fix.

IIRC you, brasidas, and others did not advocate this but a rapproachment with Pakistan. Hmmmm.... I wonder what cause this change of attitude? Is it a case of eggs on your face after realizing that Pakistan was no where stable as you thought it was despite numerous warnings from India and its citizens who had experience dealing with them?

This is primarily a tank board.

So...The Taliban in Afghanistan are holed up in the Mountains, the hilly rocky terrain where armor can't be effectively employed.

I have never seen a single picture nor ever read of the Taliban in pakistan having any armor of any kind in its inventory nor employing any artillery bigger than simple moratrds and small 107mm rockets. If they are to take over Pakistan how would they be able to take on and defeat all those armored units in the Central part of the nation where tanks can be used? Pakistan has thousands of tanks and APC's, I don't see how the Taliban can spread much farhter then the NWF areas on the merits of lack of military means alone much less the other points people have brought up here as far as ethnicity is concerned.

The Talaban did have a rag tag fleet of armor when they were in power in Afganistan. It was used in the usual fashion as self-propelled artillery and as personel carriers.

You are right that they aren't going to be able to conjur up any kind of armored threat to the PA.

Sorry, I don't recall this. The whole bloody region needs a civilization enema via bayonet. The question is, can we use anyone to do help us out? Nope, looks like the whole kit and kaboodle needs unf***ed.

Correct , i will add one important caveat though: 40/50% of the officer corp of the PA IIRC is probably Pathan/Pashtun.How much sympathy will they have for the Taliban ?.Very little from what i read and hear.Unless in the unlikely event that a campaign targets the entire NWFP (North West Frontier Province) there shouldn't be any problems.

Will the Taliban overrun the whole of Pakistan and defeat the PA ?.

They (the Taliban) have a less chance of succeeding in Pakistan than did the Islamists in Syria or the various minority factions in Iraq when Saddam was around. The PA is larger than the syrian army or iraqi army and by all accounts more competent as well.

Bear in mind also that the real heartland of Pakistan where its populace and its economic and military assets are concentrated is the province of Punjab. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punjab_(Pakistan)

Its flat wheat growing country ideal for amored warfare and where 2 or 3(?) of the PA's armored divisions are located.Chances of such a takeover happening are as Luke says lower than that of him giving a ...uh never mind.

Actually the majority of Pashtun/Pathan/Pattans are resident in Pakistan, but like I said a million times before, there are multiple elements to the insurgency in Afghanistan, and the largest is a general pashtun insurgency largely mercinary.

Why? THEY DON'T WANT TO

And people need to learn to differentiate between "the taliban" and general pashtuns with guns and a bad attitude...

We need a conre drugs intervention for this thread me thinks...

I believe that's right, but so is what I said. Compare the total populations of the two countries. ;)
