DougRichards Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 I am building, well finishing, Trumpeters LCM3, but the details of the paint sceme are a bit lacking in the instructions. I don't really want to go out and buy the Italeri kit just for the paint scheme, nor the 1/48 Hobbyboss, nor the Dragon 1/72 nor someone else's 1/144. Can anyone give hints about the hull colour? The deck colour? the 'superstructure' colour? I have tried some googlefu, without success. On a side issue, has anyone else notice the 1/144 LCACV (?) from Trumpeter? Oh if it twas only in 1/35! Massive, but fun. The LCM3 is something of a reminder of my youth, from when Airfix was the only game in town, and the LCM3 with Sherman was the major 1/76 scale AFV kit to have. It is as if I am repeating my youth in 1/35. I am looking forward to someone making a Posten 20mm in 1/35 so I can recreate the Airfix LVT Buffalo in 1/35.
ShotMagnet Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 (edited) Linky 'Nother And three, for the quorum Google images link OK, still not conclusive but all of the craft shown looked like they were sporting about the same shade of blue/haze-gray. If nothing else, the reviews should at least mention other options. I looked at the first three pages of the Google images results, nothing but blue-gray. Shot Edited October 11, 2007 by ShotMagnet

If nothing else, the reviews should at least mention other options. I looked at the first three pages of the Google images results, nothing but blue-gray. Shot Shot That is what I figured from those reviews. The reviews of the Italeri LCVP were not much help either. I have built one of the old Revell 1/35 UDT boats, which is actually a LCP, as an LCP rather than the frogmans' boat. Those instructions directed to use a darker grey than normal sea grey, and also to paint under the waterline in hull red. This of course may have been more accurate for a 'special forces' boat ather than a standard landing craft. I am surprised that with the flurry of landing craft from Trumpeter / Dragon / Italeri / Fonderie etc that Revell hasn't dug those old moulds from storage and re-released that kit as a landing craft. (see http://www.schnellboot.net/us/udt/revell35...plan/index.html )
DougRichards Posted October 12, 2007 Author Posted October 12, 2007 And the suggested paint scheme for the recently acquired Italeri LVT-2 Amtrac is US Navy Blue Grey - Model Master 2055. This may give a good idea of what the US Navy painted its landing craft in.
Corinthian Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 On a side issue, has anyone else notice the 1/144 LCACV (?) from Trumpeter? IIRC, IPMS-Philippines had first dibs on the 1/144 LCAC. I've been wanting to have a 1/35 LCAC. I hope this 1/144 kit will lead to a 1/72 and a 1/35 very soon.
Jacques Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 Hi guys. If you are doing a European use LCM3, then it would proobably be pretty clean and pristine. Something along the lines of either a neutral gray or a blue gray. Pacific Theatre LCM3's faded pretty fast so it would either be a freshly painted one or a fairly faded one. Also, pacific LCM3's tended to have more rust stains, probably due to more use, less down time. The LCAC looks interesting but I heard it only comes with the skirts in running poition and it is $35 a crack over here...a bit rich for 1/144. Maybe if I find it on clearance!
DougRichards Posted October 18, 2007 Author Posted October 18, 2007 Thanks for the ideas so far, I have sort of settled on Tamiya Haze Grey for the upperworks, and Humbrol Sea Grey for the hull. Probably not accurate, but as it seems r e a l l y hard to find out the real colours these will do. Will be in European theatre - beaching the 'early production' Tamiya M4. I guess if I really wanted to make an interesting setup I would have my LCM being piggybacked on a Draggon Waggon on the way to the Rhine. But then again when someone comes out with a Scammell in 1/35 and a Polsten to put on Italeri's LVT4A for the British version I can create a vision from Airfix circa 1967. Did anyone else notice that AFV Club is releasing a Bofors? I wonder how this will compare with Italeri's. It cannae be more expensive I hope, but probably won't have crew.
