Guest aevans Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 http://www.navytimes.com/news/2007/07/navy...owline_070717w/ Hmmm, another skipper relieved of command? Knowing the f*ckin' Nav, they'll probably try to pin it on some bluejacket, claiming he was trying to sabotage the ship to get out of going on deployment. Oh, and he'll be a gay communits too.
BP Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 That's a whole lotta covering up to hide the fact they were f@#$ing off waterskiing instead of working out there.
Brasidas Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 (edited) Oh man, wait till you see the paperwork invested in to ensure suitable risk management in training exercises after this. Edited July 17, 2007 by Brasidas
BP Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 Oh man, wait till you see the paperwork invested in to ensure suitable risk management in training exercises after this. Shhh. Don't say anything to your Navy buddies. I'm going to run to Ace Hardware and Radio Shack to get supplies for my monkeys paw/line throwing simulator, the Sea TWAT (Throwable Weighted Accessory Trainer). I think I can sell a few dozen to SPAWAR at $875K apiece.
Macarthur Posted July 17, 2007 Posted July 17, 2007 I can't imagine it would be overly difficult to just cut the line free. its just nylon. I guess if they don't have any divers might not be possible, but otherwise, piece of cake.

I really can't blame them -- surface combatants aren't exactly the best or most well-equipped diver support platforms.

Sounds like you'll make millions. Even worse, is that you're gonna get a contract to provide logistics and technical support for ten years as an add on, aren't you? Edited July 18, 2007 by Brasidas
R011 Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 Wow, the USS Forrest Sherman still exists?DD-931, lead ship of the Forrest Sherman class, was stricken from the Naval Vessel Register in 1990 DDG-98, an Arleigh Burke class destroyer, was commissioned in 2006.

Noow you know why I added them as a customer! Everything we do has an ILS piece. I was born at night, just not last night.
Paul in Qatar Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 Didn't Arleigh Burke run an LGB aground as a young watch-stander? His career survived, but I doubt it would nowadays. Zero-defects and all that.
Slater Posted July 18, 2007 Author Posted July 18, 2007 Chester Nimitz ran a destroyer aground on a mud bank and (I think) was court-martialed for it.
Chris Werb Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 DD-931, lead ship of the Forrest Sherman class, was stricken from the Naval Vessel Register in 1990 DDG-98, an Arleigh Burke class destroyer, was commissioned in 2006. But, surprisingly, the DD-931 does still exist and there is an organisation trying to preserve it: http://www.ussforrestsherman.org/indexb.htm
