jwduquette1 Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 The sequence is supposedly taken during Kursk. But that may or may not be true. Anyone have a guess at what sort of tank or vehicle is being strafed? To me, it Almost looks like a T34 in one frame -- but than it also looks like an M18 Hellcat in another frame. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54PSlFEEE7Q regardsJD

RETAC21 Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 The turret is too far back to be a T-34, IMHO. T-70 IMO
jwduquette1 Posted March 5, 2007 Author Posted March 5, 2007 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z07wF2mCH1U...ted&search= This one is also interesting. The straffing runs about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way into the video. Note the smoke trails and the cork-screw pattern. I see this alot in newsreels of the period. I have always assumed this to be spin yaw. Any other thoughts on the cork screwing smoke trails?
Guest JamesG123 Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Its the tracer element. The corkscrewing is from the spin of the round.
jwduquette1 Posted March 6, 2007 Author Posted March 6, 2007 Its the tracer element. The corkscrewing is from the spin of the round. right. so like spin induced yaw and pitch. ala...
Luckyorwhat Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Is that a special pilot, to fire 2 shots and get 2 hits?
Sardaukar Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Is that a special pilot, to fire 2 shots and get 2 hits? Maybe it was Rudel... But IMHO he only flew Ju-87 models.
Catalan Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Is that a special pilot, to fire 2 shots and get 2 hits? Photoshop 3rd Reich Version
jwduquette1 Posted March 6, 2007 Author Posted March 6, 2007 looks like three shots. i cant tell if the third was a miss or a richochet.
Luckyorwhat Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Maybe it was Rudel... But IMHO he only flew Ju-87 models. That would explain the camera's presence, and you can't see what plane it is. But I understood that Rudel attacked from the rear as SOP. IIRC the tanks had less reaction time, you faced thinner armour and better parts to shoot at, and if you got shot down you'd be headed towards friendly lines not away from them.
