mark.stevens Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 And I'll raise my cup of double chocolate truffles hot chocolate in a toast to youwith your shot of Balvenie WISHING YOU A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHOTS!!!I think that it is worth noting here that none of the fine libations mentioned here would be possible if the casks they are aged in weren't available courtesy of that true nectar of the gods Bourbon!
DesertEagle Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Wow I didn't realize how fancy we Tanknetters are. A bottle of Black Label or Famous Grouse would suffice for me.
Dame Karmen Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 My fancy hot chocolate came in fancy Christmas gourmet gift baskets, fedexed all the way from a fancy gift baskets place in Vancouver, sent by a group of amazing friends/people from different places. Didn'tknow they were coming until I opened my door to find two huge boxesleft at my door! Wow! I'm assuming that Balvenie is brandy or scotch whiskey?
ShotMagnet Posted December 27, 2007 Author Posted December 27, 2007 A bottle of Black Label or Famous Grousewould suffice for me.For me as well, but 'tis the season'. And it was most smooth. Shot
Guest Charles Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 (edited) Used to have 109 bottles of single malt. I then moved to the Highlands, built a house; and am now looking to rebuild my collection. Currently stands at about 20 bottles. Favorites, all of em (not being greedy or anything ). I have yet to have a bad Scotch Whisky. Currently in the process of drinking Cask strength. More distilleries are offering these beasties. Best way to drink them is to add a few drops of water (just a few drops); allow the water to mix in with the Whisky. Then sip and enjoy the nuklear depth bomb that you have just swallowed . Cannot beat it, great stuff. Recommendations: Ardbeg 17 yr. Very rare now, but worth it. Balvenie 12yr (Double wood) Coal Isla 12yr Cask strength. I trust that everyone had a good Christmas, and here's to a prosperous New year. Cheers Charles Edited December 29, 2007 by Charles

Geoff Winnington-Ball Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 It's a scotch whiskey. Highly recommended, if you like that sort of thing.ShotI dunno about Scotch, but get between her and a bottle of Jameson's and you're in deep ca-ca...
Dame Karmen Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 (edited) Thanks Shots Haven't had any Jameson's since before leaving T.O. (good lord, can it really be almost 2 years ago since I moved??? Since T.O. have had about 2 beers since then (given to me) and a few special drinks over Christmas at my kids. oops ... neighbor invited me in for coffee just before Christmasand added one shot of brandy to it, made me tipsy ) and sent me home with a shot that I had in my gourmet cocoa and a coffee later. That was enuf for me Tipsy and warm cheeks on half a shot, I get. Edited December 29, 2007 by VenerableDamePW
Doug Kibbey Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 STRONGLY recommend either the Lagavulin 16 year or MaCallan 18 year as minimum starting points for superb taste. (McCallan 10 year is like gasoline, don't waste your time). Serve room temp or over ice if you so choose. I recommend room temp for max flavor and enjoyment, both are that smooth. Prices are from mid-$50 for the former to over $100 for the latter. Definitely sipping whiskies as average budgets.
Dame Karmen Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 I once had fun drinking a brandy or a whiskey that had real flakes of gold in it!Anyone know what I'm talking about? What was that glittering drinky that hit melike a ton of bricks?
Dame Karmen Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 The "Scotch" thread just reminded me of a tune ... Dry martini, jigger of gin, oh what a spell you've got me in, oh my ... (insert Scotch for dry martini )
ShotMagnet Posted December 31, 2007 Author Posted December 31, 2007 I once had fun drinking a brandy or a whiskey that had real flakes of gold in it!Goldschlager, mayhap? Shot
Dame Karmen Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Thanks Shot, I wish I could remember I just googled that to view imagesand can't remember if that's the bottle, but could be. I don't recall a"cinnamon" taste at all though, so that throws me off and makes me think it'sthe wrong liquor. I hope memory will come back better. I do know it was extremely expensive but can't remember how much I was told it cost. Thiswas quite a number of years ago
ShotMagnet Posted December 31, 2007 Author Posted December 31, 2007 Just taking a guess. I've had no experience with it myself. Drinking gold seems a bit excessive even for me, but it does sound like what you were drinking. Shot

Geoff Winnington-Ball Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 Goldschlager, mayhap?Geez, that brings back memories... I've never touched the stuff, but I remember an evening in February 1999; the occasion was the formal 40th birthday party for my ex. She got into the Goldschlager early on and despite the fact that she was a pretty big girl, ended up depositing the lot of it (and a whole lot of other interesting things) on the driveway of the house. We barely got her out of the cab in time, it seems... Anyway, it's very funny in retrospect....... no, actually, I lied - it was actually very funny at the time too, which is probably one of the reasons we're no longer married...
BP Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Well, it's supposedly getting down to a balmy Canadian-summerish 20-22 degrees F here tonight along the coast, with a chance of lake effect type flurries off the ocean. Actually almost need the fireplace tonight. The big debate is two fingers of the last of my Dalwhinnie, George Dickel sippin' whiskey, or my beloved Woodford Reserve bourbon?
Harold Jones Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Just pour em both in a half liter of coke and enjoy.
Guest Charles Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Just pour em both in a half liter of coke and enjoy. You jest, please tell me that you are joking . Charles

That should be " Danziger Goldwasser " , it is a liqueur rather than a brandy, sweet, 40 proof and sticky and no one (IMO) should drink more than ONE shot per social gathering.
Harold Jones Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 You jest, please tell me that you are joking . Charles I was...Everyone knows bourbon goes better with Pepsi.

Geoff Winnington-Ball Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 AAaacCCGkkKK! I just kicked back from my desk so hard my chair is in space shuttle launch position.Gotta love them cordless keyboards, eh?
BP Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 Gotta love them cordless keyboards, eh? Oh no, corded. When I woke up from the fall, the machine was in my lap and the flat screen monitor across my trachea. But it only shut off the oxygen for 15-20 minutes tops, so no harm done. Pepsi. . . .borbon. . . the horror. . . the horror. . .
