Never underestimate the ability of American civil engineers and city planners to underestimate capacity issues.

There is a small-diameter roundabout in my AO, that replaced a simple intersection with stop signs on one road (i.e. a "two way stop" in Americanese). It was intended to filter out semi trucks going to deliver loads to a Walmart. It works, mainly because all four entries into the roundabout have low-speed traffic.

The above animation shows a roundabout where the yield signs are only road paint, no traditional signs on posts. That's a recipe for death here in the States.
