bojan Posted February 4, 2024 Posted February 4, 2024 (edited) Yes, it quite possible it is origin of the myth. AFAIK, air at the border areas of the HEAT jet front is compressed so much that it is possible for it to form some plasma. But it has no effect on penetration, as vacuum tests of shaped charges show same penetration as ones in air. Edited February 4, 2024 by bojan
Tim Sielbeck Posted February 4, 2024 Posted February 4, 2024 It would be very interesting to see that test in a vacuum.
bojan Posted February 4, 2024 Posted February 4, 2024 A lot of shaped charges tests were done in the (mostly second half of) '60s when equipment allowed to do real high speed studies of the phenomenon. Before that a lot of what was applied to shaped charges was based on empirical knowledge, w/o real understanding of the "what was really going on". This has lead to a significant increase in shaped charge performances in the '70/80s.

Ivanhoe Posted February 7, 2024 Author Posted February 7, 2024 We knew SLAM's work was iffy, but this guy barbecue's Grossman; I've been skeptical of Grossman for quite some time, even more so now.

Tim Sielbeck Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 It could be anything. To my untrained it looks like a combination of a draft and a warm blooded breed. Its movements would be used in dressage, which is the equivalent of ice dancing for horses (but, of course, not on ice).
