lucklucky Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 Nice bd1, glad you not hurt. Were you with safety belt?
bd1 Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 yeah, all of us were. wife was in bit of shock, but 2-year old kid in his seat seemed like he did not notice it at all.

Tim Sielbeck Posted August 14, 2023 Posted August 14, 2023 Yeah. It was late, I was tired and lazy. So “here” it is.

bojan Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 Total ammo load is same as in Mk.1 version, 120 rounds, which Mk.1 version could fire w/o issues. Barrel change would have to occur after that, but barrel change took less time then it took to reload all 120 rounds. Alternatively, hose was provided which could cool a barrel while ammo was being reloaded.
DB Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 I don't know how well known this guy is, but he is that unicorn who is broadly Democrat leaning but is a realist and has a sense of humour. This is about people who are unhappy that their vapourware NFT is worthless.
Leo Niehorster Posted August 23, 2023 Posted August 23, 2023 Amazing. The B-17 really absorbed a lot of hits. No fire, but the tail and belly gunners were toast.

Indeed - after little time, the belly ball turret does not move at all, and not much fire from the tail position, either. Would have been some horrific moments seeing that Bf-110 approaching one's plane. It is a possibility that the belly gunner was evacuated, however.
Leo Niehorster Posted August 23, 2023 Posted August 23, 2023 Belly gunner turret could only be entered/exited in flight in one position so that the hatch opening faced the interior of the plane. This required the ball turret be rotated so that the guns were pointed downward – assuming the hydraulics were still functioning. If not, he had to hand crank into the required position. There was no way he could jump directly from the turret, as he did not wear a parachute in it due to space considerations. The chute was located in the hull (!) next to the hatch, which meant he had to enter the plane, before putting it on and then jumping.
sunday Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 Yes, one could see that turret's guns pointing downwards for most of the video.
