ShotMagnet Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 Doffing caps for our British brethren-in-arms. Geoff, what does the designation 'Kingsman' denote? Shot
Geoff Winnington-Ball Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 Geoff, what does the designation 'Kingsman' denote?ShotOne of those peculiarities in the British regimental system dictates that certain regiments assign ranks which have their names drawn from the type of regiment; in this case, a Kingsman is a Private in one of the regiments where the regimental name begins with "King's"; note that this does NOT change in the event the sex of the monarch changes. Another example is Rifle regiments; for instance, in my Queen's Own Rifles of Canada, Privates hold the rank Rifleman (RFN instead of PTE). Then, of course, there are equivalent ranks by service branch. Frightfully confusing, but I love it.
ShotMagnet Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 No, actually it makes a lot of sense. I hadn't known that the various 'King's' regiments called their privates 'Kingsmen', but it does make a particularly British kind of sense. Shot

Without them we are simply 'another cog in the system'. Ref 'Kingsman', I've NEVER run across the rank directly, but then my service association with Brits was limited at best.
Coldsteel Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Russian propaganda, we all know this is not how it really works, in the clip it completely fails to acquire the gunners arm and load it into the breach.

It is interesting to see it in operation nonetheless. And that second link of yours is broken, should be

Jim Martin Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Filmed in Kruger National Park in S. Africa apparently. This is incredible footage. Lions stalk buffalo, take down calf in water. Croc tries to take calf from lions. Lions pull calf from croc, and then extremely pissed-off herd of buffalo show up to beat the tar out of the lions. Wow!
Corinthian Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 What if... What if the movie "The 300" was dubbed in Ilonggo (a dialect in the Philippines)

I can't believe the calf survived and actually walked away!!! And I had no idea the buffalos would form such a phalanx and just go and run the lions over.
Michael Eastes Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 I'm not a big fan of rap (OK, I really don't like it hardly at all...) but here's an exception: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBflQLa75C8
Colin Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 (edited) Swedish military stuff Edited August 14, 2007 by Colin
Jim Martin Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 Swedish military stuff Interesting that in the first clip, Swedish amphib assets are seen debarking from the well deck of a US gator freighter. How frequently does Sweden train with the US and NATO nowadays? Commanding a Stridsbaat 90 has got to be one of the best jobs in any military.

They look like something that could be supporting Hammer's Slammers, don't they? Those little hulls are just packed with goodies. I'd love a chance to go out and play with one.
