Geoff, what does the designation 'Kingsman' denote?

Shot

One of those peculiarities in the British regimental system dictates that certain regiments assign ranks which have their names drawn from the type of regiment; in this case, a Kingsman is a Private in one of the regiments where the regimental name begins with "King's"; note that this does NOT change in the event the sex of the monarch changes.

Another example is Rifle regiments; for instance, in my Queen's Own Rifles of Canada, Privates hold the rank Rifleman (RFN instead of PTE). Then, of course, there are equivalent ranks by service branch.

Frightfully confusing, but I love it. :D

No, actually it makes a lot of sense. I hadn't known that the various 'King's' regiments called their privates 'Kingsmen', but it does make a particularly British kind of sense.

All these 'quiffs' (as we call them, which include individual regimental behaviours enshrined through centuries in some cases) serve to reinforce the 'family' aspect of The Regiment. Without them we are simply 'another cog in the system'.

Ref 'Kingsman', I've NEVER run across the rank directly, but then my service association with Brits was limited at best.

Russian propaganda, we all know this is not how it really works, in the clip it completely fails to acquire the gunners arm and load it into the breach.

Nevermind, it's a long standing joke on Tank-net about the 7-72s autoloader, and the people who believe it routinely dis-arms the gunner. It is interesting to see it in operation nonetheless.

And that second link of yours is broken, should be

Kingsman is a private in the recently-formed Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, one of whose antecedents was the King's Regiment, who used that designation. Some of the others are:

Trooper: Royal Armoured Corps and Special Air Service Regiment

Air Trooper: Army Air Corps

Guardsman: Foot Guards

Rifleman: The Rifles

Craftsman: Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers

Sapper: Royal Engineers

Signaller: Royal Corps of Signals

Gunner, Lance-Bombardier, Bombardier: Royal Artillery

The Household Cavalry have a unique system of ranks in which the word "sergeant" cannot be used (for some arcane reason), thus you have Corporals of Horse and Squadron Corporals Major.

Filmed in Kruger National Park in S. Africa apparently. This is incredible footage. Lions stalk buffalo, take down calf in water. Croc tries to take calf from lions. Lions pull calf from croc, and then extremely pissed-off herd of buffalo show up to beat the tar out of the lions. Wow!

Yeah it's great. I can't believe the calf survived and actually walked away!!! And I had no idea the buffalos would form such a phalanx and just go and run the lions over.

Swedish military stuff

Interesting that in the first clip, Swedish amphib assets are seen debarking from the well deck of a US gator freighter. How frequently does Sweden train with the US and NATO nowadays?

Commanding a Stridsbaat 90 has got to be one of the best jobs in any military.

They look like something that could be supporting Hammer's Slammers, don't they? Those little hulls are just packed with goodies. I'd love a chance to go out and play with one.

Those of you wondering what 1970s song is used in the trailers for the upcoming NBC show Life, here is a YouTube "video" with the full song.
