FlyingCanOpener
OK, so we all know how aesthetically pleasing a Spitfire, Su-27, or Tomcat can be, but what are some other aircraft that aren't hard on the eyes that people tend to overlook when it come to the "purdiest plane" banter? To me two planes tend to jump out, the MiG-31 and the Mirage F.1. Any objectors? Edited April 23, 2006 by FlyingCanOpener
gnocci
Ah, those are from the "pointy" school of design. I like more the "curvy" school.
Tony Williams
My favourite: the SAAB Draken. Photos from this site: http://www.scramble.nl/draken.htm Tony Williams: Military gun and ammunition website and discussion forum
Macarthur
I've always been partial to the lines of the F-5E, espescially with some of the 'Tiger' paintjobs.picturehttp://www.amv83.net/asm/Sig/australie/Brasil%20AF%2030%20ans%20F-5E%20Tiger-4.jpg The F-4D/6A is also a nice looker IMO. Alot of the early carrier aircraft (pre-vietnam/early vietnam era) are also quite eye-pleasing.
gnocci
My favourite: the SAAB Draken. 313118 Oh yes... The top lookig pointy one. The side view is pretty plain, but the wings shape is just perfect. My ideal AF would be equipped with Drakens and Flankers only. And perhaps MiG-17s, just for the kicks

Guest pfcem
I always thought the YF-23 was a pretty bird (even though they nicknamed it after a spider).

Bob B
Best looking plane to ever wear shark's teeth: FWIW, it think the second plane in formation has a better looking set of choppers Edited April 23, 2006 by Bob B

nitflegal
I'm a fan of the manned missile designs, so two of my favorites: F-11 and F-104Matt Edited April 23, 2006 by nitflegal
Ivanhoe
Glad to see some of my favorites already mentioned; the Draken and the Voodoo. Another one I've liked for aesthetics is the F7U Cutlass. This one needs to be near the top of the list;

BP
F-101 Voodoo. Sexy plane with long legs. 313144 Exactly. I always thought that was one good looking aircraft! I saw one a few weeks back parked next to an F-4 Phantom and never realized how damn big they were.
lostinhistory
Not sure why I think this aircraft fits in this topic? I just know I like it:C-27J Spartan http://www.c-27j.com/photo_gallery.php

I saw one a few weeks back parked next to an F-4 Phantom and never realized how damn big they were. I believe an implicit design criterion for the Century Series fighters is that even if they're shot down over enemy territory they will do serious damage on impact. Plus the SAR folks can use seismic triangulation to find the wreckage...

I guess beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

Sven Arvidsson
The Chinese Q-5 Fantan have always seemed to me to be a very sleek and good-loking design, being somewhat based on the Su-19 but much more.. pointy.
Tony Williams
I always had a soft spot for the XF8U-3 - it had a kind of brutal beauty. Shame it never made it into service. Photos from http://www.vought.com/heritage/products/html/f8u-3.html The YF-107A, another abortive project, had a somewhat similar rakish appeal. Scott Cunningham
There is an F-107 down in Tuscon. I thought it would be a HUGE plane (like the F-101/F-105) but it is actually a small fighter, about as big (or possibly smaller) than an F-8.
