Inverted, jacketed, telescopic APFSDS not only has a higher penetration than regular APFSDS but it also has a higher angle performance than regular APFSDS. Would this make NATO frontal hull designs obsolete as the required amount of raw thickness would be too high for (most) tanks reasonably achieve? Is there any confirmation that newer Russian APFSDS designs incorporated elements to defeat heavy ERA designs similar to K5 or Relkit? It looks to me that rounds such at the BM-42M and what little exists of cross sections of newer rounds appear to have a special tip design. However this is speculation on my and the Internets part currently. http://www.kotsch88.de/munition/125mm/bm-42m.jpg It could be that this is for both complex composite arrays and ERA? The Soviets and currently the Russians would have an understanding of countermeasures in rod design to defeat ERA and certainly been aware that aside from potentially facing their own weapons other nations (China in particular) would incorporate heavy ERA into their own protection schemes. Perhaps this belongs in the armor scientific section.
