  1. And now for something completely different— Apparently steam is still running in Burma: https://www.faz.net/aktuell/reise/in-der-dampflok-durch-burma-zurueckbleiben-bitte-16165236.html Sorry, in German, but the pics are nice.
  2. I used to have shirts like that in the 70's. All plastic, no cotton.
  3. Well, that's an idea. Depends on where we start, and if any charity / thrift stores are in the area.
  4. Thanks, guys. I rather like the idea of carry-on-luggage-only. Hate rolling and/or lifting my heavy suitcase.
  5. Thanks Bojan, but I meant how bad is the experience when going from Germany to the USA.
  6. Re: Carry-on luggage, only: Do they still have laundromats in the US? I can't remember seeing one here in Germany or Holland lately. Otherwise, normally, only larger hotels offer laundry service. But do they have overnight service? (I remember a certain hotel in England — which name shall not be mentioned — who offered short-term laundry service, but in actual fact was three (I think) days.) How bad is that is the airport security check in Germany? How long does the online ESTA take? Is there a waiting / approval period?

  8. Hmm, there's only 53 in Germany.
  9. Oooooooooooh. Nasty, nasty. :D :D I'm glad a Usian posted that! Otherwise we'd never heard the end of it.
  10. With that logic, even children — who pay VAT, state and/or local sales taxes on products — should arguably also be allowed to vote, even drink alcohol, drive cars ... be drafted.
  11. Here's a big, fat cigar and a well aged, single-malt whiskey to you, sir! Enjoy.
  12. Makhno's outfit was not very democratic - he even installed his wife as the head of secret police. But the Spanish anarchist militias in the civil war did elect field commanders etc. and I think even vote on participation in campaigns. And how did that work out for them in the end?
  13. Well, I thought Sicario was well followed by No. 2: Sicario: Day of the Soldado
  14. With all due respect, the same reason "capitalistic" policies in the USA result in millions of illegal (upps — sorry: undocumented) immigrants. Anyway, both North America and Europe have had many waves of immigrants, (voluntary, involuntary, legal, illegal, conquering, invading, indentured, enslaved). Most stayed. They are what shape our nations today. And they are pretty good places to live. Frankly, better than any other place in the world.
  15. In my experience, cat urine rusts steel very effectively - a fact that a glance at my gun cabinet will sadly confirm. Pray tell how your cat(s) got into your gun cabinet?? Isn't this something that is supposedly locked — even assuming the nanny state allows you to have 1/ guns 2/at home?
  16. I disagree. Henry VIII establish the rise of the British Empire, by created the Royal Navy, establish royal shipyards, and encouraged shipbuilding. He was also a successful war leader. In his youth Henry was a vigorous man, an accomplished sportsman, a musician, and was known for his learning and intelligence. However, to quote Wiki

  18. Auch ein blindes Huhn findet mal ein Korn "Even a blind hen finds a grain of corn once in a while." Even with your eyes closed, when you fire a shotgun at a large enough target, some of the buckshot might hit.
  19. The end of the Monroe Doctrine.
