Something strange happened last night... I was play testing my Carolingian Mod, and my Italian King Ludovico II got a marriage alliance proposal from the Pagan Magyars! The Magyars are the Hungarians, and living in southern Russia at this time. Since I would rather have them raiding the East Franks, I accepted. I was under the impression Pagan factions didn't have Princess'? I am pretty sure I set them up as Pagans correctly (will double check). Can leaders convert to other religions?

Thanks Jim, I noticed that as well. I wonder how it compares to the MedMod?
-
I figured out the naming conventions, at least for the kings. At least the mod campaigns will start with the correct Kings. Still havn't been able to figure out the heirs yet. I am just about done with the 843 campaign. This will have France as the West Franks, Germans as the East Franks and Italy as the Middle Kingdom (Italy + Provence, burgundy, Lorraine & Friesland. I am planning on four campaigns 843, 875, 888, and 923.

Dan, That makes sense, there must have been an heir that took over. Does anyone know how the game chooses King and heir names? I am working on a Frankish mod (843 - 923), and want to use the proper names. For example, I am planning on using the Sicilian faction as the Bulgar Khanate (Danubian), and I don't want the Khan to be named king Roger I? Thanks...

I bought the game last week , before my 2 week vacation. I have been playing with the MedMod. I'm hooked! has this happened to anyone else... I have been playing the early campaign as Sicily. Conquered North Africa and Spain. Then I came up against the English in Navarre and Aragon. I took both provinces (castles still under seige). The wierd thing was, I captured King Richard I, Prince Henry and 3 other nobles, and the English didn't ransom them! maybe Prince John was plotting back in London? Dan, Thanks for the heads up on the MedMod. I just changed a couple of the titles. King of Naples -> Duke of Apulia; Governor of Malta -> Count of Malta; Governor of Tunisia -> Count of Tunis (1150's Tunisia was a County of Sicily); for now I left Count of Sicily as is, but will change it when I find the correct name. There was only one county in Sicily in Roger's time, the rest of the Barons were direct vassals of the king, and all the cities were in the Royal Domain. one more thing.... What do you all prefer....Domination or G.A. for your campaigns? I started my campaign as Domination, but may quit and restart as G.A. so I can stay more historically accurate.

Dan, Thanks for the link, I will be sure to Download it. Bohemund of Taranto & later Antioch (I don't know what they called in the list) would also be a Siculo-Norman. This is odd, considering that what made Federico II the "Stupor Mundi" was his Sicilianess. Sicily was one (If not the) of the most powerful countries in Europe at that time (before the Sicilian Vespers). Ruggiero Earned more income from his capital Palermo than the Kings of England did from their entire Kingdom. It' odd that they would not include Sicily. If you (or the creators of the game for that matter) are interested in this period you should read John Julius Norwich's "The other Conquest" & "the Kingdom in the Sun". These books were also combined in "The Normans in the South". I bought my copy in Toronto, but i think it is available at Amazon and B&N. As you all can probably tell by now I am really of the Sicilian ilk Thanks again [Edited by Sam (16 Jun 2003).]

I have been thinking of picking this game up afer trying the demo. Can someone tell me what Sicily is like in the game. What Generals do they have? Are Robert Guiscard, Roger Altavilla, and Frederick II in it? I am hoping Norman Sicily is well represented? Will I be dissapointed? TIA

Thanks Paul, The problem is In SP:MBT the Rh202 does 9 (AP?) and 11 (apds?) while the French 20mm does 15. until I change the AP values, I will have to base the "proof vs" protection level to match what SP:MBT uses. I have made quite a few changes to the Italian OOB, including alot of modified icons. This question was prompted by the VCC-1 with addon armor, which is supposed to proof it vs 20mm @ 200 meters. I created a very cool icon based on the Israeli classical addon armor icon. I also redid the Ariete, the turret just bugged me. I will release it when it is completed.

What would be a good armor value to use for an AFV which is proof vs 20mm @ 200 meters. I believe the 20mm APFSDS does 11 or 15 depending on the country. Should the armor value be 10 or 14 depending on which 20mm value you use? In other words just drop a point or 2 from the penetration values, so it can be Ko'd at close range?

You need to use SHPEdit to insert new icons into the icon files. I also use PaintShop Pro to edit the icons. If you want the new Strker MGS icon, I can send you the files, and a list of the icon numbers I used for the other variants. There are seperate Piranha 8x8 APC (no turret), ATGM, and Mortar carrier icons in the game already, in addition to the MGS icon I created. I believe they were in the Spanish and Swiss obf. Is it just me, or is the Stryker really that bad? I thought it was supposed to be protected vs RPG hits? The icons are also terrible. I changed my US obf to use the Piranha 8x8 icons, and modified the Stryker MGS to use the Piranha hull with the AMX-13 turret. It looks pretty good. Paul, did you ever do an armor estimate for the Stryker?
-
Paul, Thanks, I used your M32 estimate as a guide, but I think you are right, the 76/62 could be increased a little. Doesn't the 12.7mm SLAP penetrate 19mm @ 1500 meters? The M2HB should be able to take out BTR's at 1,000 meters easily, wouldn't you agree? I don't know why they would only give it a 2 HE penetration value at the muzzle. Isn't there an APEI round that does 10mm @ 1,000 meters? This round would also have a higher HE kill value due to the incendiary capability. Not sure how to model that right now. The 12.7mm ammo is important to the Italian oob, because they didn't have a cannon armed IFV until the VCC-80 Dardo. [Edited by Sam (29 Jul 2002).]

Paul, Have you ever done a penetration estimate for the OTO-Breda 76mm L62 AA gun on the AMRAD 76? It seems to be waaaay under rated in the Italian obf. Seems like a 76mm flak gun firing 120 rounds a minute should do more than 5 HE kill. I thought someone reported, on this forum, that it was able to take out a T-72 (probably early model). I believe the South African 76mm GT-4 gun on the Rooikat is a license built copy. Can anyone here read Polish? http://www.pancerni.to2.pl/otomatic.html The text says something about APFSDS - 1617 m/s and PFF 910 m/s. Right now I gave it a tentative 33cm APFSDS value. A rough estimate would be fine. Thanks. [Edited by Sam (28 Jul 2002).]

I personally don't see the point in purposely lowering the NATO/western armor values, and then having to compensate for that by lowering the W.P./Russian penetration values. It's very frustrating... I have to point out, despite this annoyance, it still is the best version yet.
-
That's correct, SP:MBT armor values are in centimeters. I haven't really looked into the penetration values much, but the 120mm DM-53 seems pretty good. 120mm L44 DM-53 = 84cm 120mm L55 DM-53 = 90cm Paul, that's pretty close isn't it? I think the Russian BM-42M will need to be changed, I believe the 125mm on the T-80UM2 only has a 71cm value. [Edited by Sam (21 Jul 2002).]
