  1. Do you know anything about the accuracy of the kill-loss ratios of Tiger units at Kursk? One unit claimed 50-1 iirc.
  2. It seems like British tanks were generally expensive. In the stream he talked about this and how amazing it is that you only get 1.5 15 tonne Cruiser III per Tiger.
  3. Is it possible that whoever wrote this just mixed up the Pershing with the Pattorn and it's still true?
  4. I read this on the Axishistory forum and haven't been able to find more information. The idea that some people/someone wanted or considered using the King Tiger as a post-war medium tank is interesting considering its weight. I don't understand why the Pershing would be so disliked. Very serious reliability issues maybe? Unsatisfactory firepower and armor? Edit: spelling
  5. It's winter, so here's some pictures of tank sculptures made from snow 🙂
  6. Hi

I'm curious about Panther gunner visibility and Ken Estes recommend that I asked you.

Do you think the gunner had bad or inferior visibility compared to, say, the Sherman? How much of a problem do you think having only a gunsight was for the gunner with finding targets?

I'd appreciate hearing your answer. Thank you. :)

How much of a weakness do you think this was for the Panther?

The French post-war report about the Panthers they operated for some years say that this is the biggest weakness of the Panther. Ken Estes said that he didn't think that the Panther gunner saw much less than the M4 gunner, and that it wasn't a big deal.

Well, it is generally the TC directing the gunner onto targets and their the Panther had a big advantage until the improved TC cupola was available on the M4. Otherwise, the Panther gunner had a wider FOV to his front than did the M4 gunner, at least until the Periscope M10 (IIRC) became widely available. So it is a bit of a wash.

I appreciate the answer, interesting. Thanks :)

  7. Thanks 🙂
  8. Do you know his profile?
  9. I was directed to him by Ken Estes, for my question about Panther gunner visibility.
  10. Hi, I made a thread with a question about your opinion on Panther vs Sherman gunner visibility. I hope you like to check it out. Thank you.

Hi Eric, I never saw any evidence of a continuous problem like that. Crew training was progressively weaker in the German forces, and I would take a look at that. The famous Duel of the Cathedral at

Also, I think your reply was cut off? You wrote "The famous duel of the cathedral at..."

  11. It's often said that a serious weakness of the Panther was that the gunner's sole vision device was his gunsight, giving him a harder time to find targets than in the Sherman for example. iirc Ken wrote something here about not necessarily agreeing with that. Would Ken like to explain further? (Forgive me if I remembered what was said wrong)
  12. Does anyone know of any Tiger 2 manuals online? I've seen some pages from it online but never an entire manual.
  13. Surely if only the front is sloped it wouldn't reduce internal space at all. According to historian Ralf Raths at the Deutsche Panzermuseum, the reason the Germans went with flat armor was because many engineers feared that the armor plates might detach from each other when hit unless they could lean against eachother as backup in a vertical arrangement.
  14. Didn't the KV-1 that was sent to USA to be reviewed perform quite well in reliability? I can't remember if it was actually pushed in reliability trials but I seem to remember that it got some praise for its reliability during the tests.
  15. What was the general opinion of the Sherman by its users throughout the war? I think you've shown reports in your videos about how its users considered it the finest medium tank in the world right up to the end of WW2. At the same time, I remember that in Jentz's book about the Panther he shows lots of snippets from reports from western Allied crews complaining seemingly really bitterly about the, in their view, inferiority of their tanks to German tanks, particularly comparing the Sherman to the Panther - one snippet saying the Sherman is "only good for parades". Were such views a minority?
