  1. I have a theory; I seem to remember a lot of blown up Libyan T-72's in Chad but few T-72 hulks. I think he may have based his T-62's in the extreme South of Libya for border protection along the Chad and Sudan Border, based the T-72's by the capital for anti-coup protection and then just gave the left over T-55's to the unreliable East and the conscript units.
  2. Why are they not doing a hell of a lot better on the battlefield if they have so many tanks. Also why are the battles a hell of a lot bigger if the rebels have 400 tanks and the Ghaddafi Loyalists over a 1,000? Should there be WW2 sized tank battles in the desert by now like the olden days of Patton, Rommel, and the Desert Rats? Really?! Are you F*&king kidding me? All the pictures of rebels tanks we have been posting on this websites and others, all the pictures on u-tube and on the 5 o'clock news, all the pictures in newspapers and magazines and you don't know they had any tanks?! And why would you not say you are sorry for killing people anyway? That is messed up, you can say that you don't think it was your fault but to not apologize for killing the wrong people is cold and harsh and sends the wrong signals to our supposed allies.
  3. Now if we could just find some pictures of any Libyan T-34/85 or Centurion tanks we would be set!
  4. Damn, I thought I had found one. same one? I wish had one of these to play on when I was a kid!
  5. They don't have any and never bought any or had any delivered yet since the embargo was lifted. Perhaps you are thinking of Algeria instead?
  6. Russian stock But they are supposed to have more T-62 tanks than they have T-72 tanks, that's what makes their absence weird.
  7. That is most likely the case. I regards to Libya it was often described from what I have read by Military analysts as "the largest tank parking lot in the world." this referring to the fact that Khaddafy in the 1970's and 1980's bought far more tanks than he had tank crews to man, in fact more tanks than he probably had regular infantry to even man. I think it was his ambition, like Saddam Hussein to be a great conqueror, to head an African super state modeled on a federal State like the United States with Libya at its head and an army from across the continent at his beck and call. Luckily he got his butt handed to him by Egypt in 1977 when he tried to invade them and by Chad in 1987 during the Toyota war when he tried to forcibly take the Aouzou strip (of land) from Chad and the French Foreign legion did not agree with his countries new expanded boundaries. Lucky for the World Khaddafy took control of a nation with a population that currently has only 6.5 million residents and not a much larger nation like Egypt or he would no doubt have been a MUCH bigger problem over the last 42 years to the World. As early as 1987 Libya was said to have as many as 2,200 T-55 tanks in service, now its generally said they operate 495 with another 1,040 in storage. The discrepancy between the numbers being that Khaddafy lost many of these tanks in Egypt 1977, Uganda 1979, Chad 1980s, and he also sold or donated many to several friendly African nations in his attempts to gain hegemony over the continent. he also is said to have imported somewhere between 600 to 900 T-62's but I see very little evidence of them in any of the pictures I have seen of the fighting. these days most estimates only quote 89 in service with 70 in storage. The huge discrepancy there is I have read that he secretly exported substantial numbers of T-62 and T-72 tanks to Iran during the 1980 to 1988 Ira-Iraq war to Iran with the plausible deniability cover for Iran that Iran captured them on the battlefield with Iraq. He may have also secretly exported some of the T-62 tanks to North Korea in the early 1980’s as well. Finally he is said to have bought around 315-350 T-72 tanks with wiki for example putting the estimates at 181 in active service with 115 in storage. As you can see the vast majority of his toys have been in long term storage, many from what I have read open to the air which no doubt makes many of them unserviceable at least for the short term after massive overhauls. He also had many from what I have seen in actual storage depots out of the elements and it was these the rebels in Benghazi were able to utilize in the early days of the revolt. I read somewhere Libya also had 50 T-34/85 tanks but these no doubt have been withdrawn from service long ago. For the 122mm 2S1's he is said to have:
  8. This is the first time I have seen Cambodia deploy a BMP-1 to the area. Strongman father dreams of glory for 'heroic' son It sounds like there was very heavy combat last weekend.
  9. Looks like Thailand took a page from Bill Clinton and very recently dumped a bunch of their older Chinese made Type-69 main battle tanks into the ocean to create a reef for fish.... What a waste IMO.
  10. Ugh! Cambodian press is calling this a Thailand "tank" so it might not have been 2 actual main battle tanks destroyed by Cambodia but just some LAV's. Ok, it looks like Thailand also has Scorpion light tanks deployed and they are bringing in some big M-60 MBT's to the area now as seen on This thread from another site's board
  11. This page has some combat footage. Here is a good close up of the back of a T-55 Cambodia seems to have a lot of tanks stationed nearby the temple. I think these are Cambodian BM-21's firing at Thailand.
