Here are some of the historical color photos of the fort during construction and on duty http://www.digitaltmuseum.no/search?query=Austr%C3%A5t+fort

And to give our international members idea of “how black is black ass” -few photos from beauty queen contests on Caucases This does not prevent people from referring to them that way and you know it.

See your video from Russian March 2013 - main demands of this nationalists was to stop oppressing them (abolish anti-hate laws and free "political prisoners"). This "political prisoners" were not Pussi Riot and Khodorkovsky, as you probably guess. Also note how careful they are in selecting words to avoid crossing the line (not even dreaming of nazi symbols and slogans). Is it enough proof for you? About ordinary citizens - they are definitely not racists, not because they are so much civilized but because there is no other races present to excursive racism on (well, except Mongoloids but for historical reasons they are commonly considered "our people" to great extent) . Caucasus people and most of Central Asians are of the same race as we Russians are. So racism of even devoted Russian racists is very much theoretical -as well as theoretical was Soviet official anti-racism. Probably you remember old Soviet-time joke "I hate only two thing: racism and blacks". Even now i think less than 10% of Russians have EVER talked personally to the person of another race. But having said that, nothing like race segregating was present in Imperial Russia and Soviet Union. Fascists? I think not, there is nothing like organized fascism among ordinary people. But there is great deal of what i think xenophobia is right word to describe. Rooted deeply in history. Do not know is it more xenophobia among ordinary Russians then among other nations, but it is definitely here. And combined with general disbelieve in "rule of law" and law reinforcement, it often result in crowds trying to take justice in own hands. By the way typical Ukrainian argument about "Why Ukrainians are better than Russians" is "Ukrainians are of a pure Slavic blood, and Russians are the mix with Ugro-Finn (another version - mix with Mongols\Tatars)". I believe it is institutionalized racism. BS. Here are your "fascists" (who are supposedly in jail) beating up migrants from central asia while yelling "white power" in English last October: http://youtu.be/rx43dy8T4Ik "Regular" people against the muslims: You know very well that Russians are very racist - most common Russian slang for people from Caucasus are "black asses" which is used by ordinary people. A white girl with a non-white looking man will at best draw stares, and very likely negative comments about how she is a prostitute and so on (and I know that from a friend of mine who recently visited Moscow with her Puertorican boyfriend). So much for tolerant Russians...
-
1) Got any proof of that? 2) So you are saying that the ordinary citizens of Moscow are fascists and racists?
-
Maybe fascists? You very well know that this is BS. Here is "Russian" march 2012: These are the same people who were beating up migrants from central asia in Biryulevo couple of months ago.

Maybe you should clean up your own house before looking across the border - "Russian march", Moscow

Seeing some of the stupid crap that was posted here as "facts", the only thing that comes mind is this photo Some people on this thread are posting complete and utter nonsense as "proof" of whatever point of view they want to prove. Maybe it's time to use some logical thinking and have some respect for the intelligence of the people who are reading this thread?

Of course take over of Crimea had nothing to do at all with the current situation in Ukraine... It's all the West's fault...
-
Maybe they should have thought the line of retreat shooting up the march of their opponents. And given the police that allowed them to do that locals took it in their own hands. Very well deserved.
-
They are masochists and like to get beat up?
-
Too bad people in Donetsk didn't think that if they they do join Russia like they want and try the same thin a bunch of OMON will show up and beat them up and arrest them...
-
Ukrainian "Impolite people" . Seems strange to complain about it after supporting the presence of foreign troops in Crimea up until the referendum .
-
Yeah, and if you believe it there is a bridge that you can buy. Especially laughable the battling corruption part.

A lot of Russian tanks in 2008 were actually ancient T-62s

Yes. There were attempts to declare Crimea independent starting 1992 http://www.nytimes.com/1992/05/06/world/crimea-parliament-votes-to-back-independence-from-ukraine.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Crimea#Autonomous_Republic_within_Ukraine_.281991.E2.80.93Present.29 On 17 December 1992, the office of the Ukrainian presidential representative in Crimea was created, which caused wave of protests a month later. Among the protesters that created the unsanctioned rally were the Sevastopol branches of the National Salvation Front, the Russian Popular Assembly, and the All-Crimean Movement of the Voters for the Republic of Crimea. The protest was held in Sevastopol on 10 January at Nakhimov Square. In 2006, protests broke out on the peninsula after U.S. Marines arrived at the Crimean city of Feodosiya to take part in the Sea Breeze 2006 Ukraine-NATO military exercise. Protesters greeted the marines with barricades and slogans bearing "Occupiers go home!" and a couple of days later, the Crimean parliament declared Crimea a "NATO-free territory." After several days of protest, the U.S. Marines withdrew from the peninsula On 24 August 2009, anti-Ukrainian demonstrations were held in Crimea by ethnic Russian residents. Sergei Tsekov (of the Russian Bloc and then deputy speaker of the Crimean parliament) said then that he hoped that Russia would treat the Crimea the same way as it had treated South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

"76" is a georgraphical region designation. In this case from Yaroslavl.

IMF? Oh God no Their track record in 'saving' countries is about on par with Juche ideology. That seems to be my impression as well .
-
There MAY be several reasons: -this time, those who give loans (IMF, among others) will probably control how the money is spent - fuck it up, and you won't see a cent, -this time, there will be no get out of jail free card after wasting what they got -and last but not least, after Maidan, people will know what to do when the government fucks everything up, they may be wise enough to take that into consideration. And I hope I'm not too naive about that. 1) Admittedly I haven't paid too much attention to Ukraine before this current crisis, but from what I understand IMF always gives conditions before they give the money, and that didn't seem to help with all of the previous loans. And in the country that is currently in anarchy (for all intents and purposes) it is very hard to keep an eye on where the money are going. Not to mention that now that Ukraine has become the last bastion of democracy before the new Russian empire (in the rhetoric of the west), it will be very hard politically to say that we screwed up and wasted 15 billion (or however many they are giving Ukraine), it is much easier to keep giving them money saying how they are supporting the democracy and so on... 2) If the current government fucks up badly enough the Russians will come in and take over, then the current Ukrainian government will be able to form a government in exile somewhere in Geneva, and be close to all of the money they stole that has been stashed away in the accounts of their wives, children or parents who have all suddenly became excellent business people. 3) The danger in that is that by the time people realize that things are going badly enough it is usually too late (case and point current Maidan - even without they whole Crimean thing Ukrainian economy was screwed by the time people revolted) or they can be distracted by external threat that Russia seems to provide so well. So yes, I do believe that you are too naive to expect things to get better there.

The funny thing is Iraq would be better of if US did annex it, as it is we went in to the country, screwed it up and left, leaving a mess behind. So how is that better? Given that the Russian economy is better that Ukraine's it is hard to argue that Crimean people would be better off after the annexation.
-
Unfortunately its much more likely that Ukraine's government will fail to do those reforms, steal the economic aid and end up being a failed state. I mean what in the last 23 years gives you a hope that the outcome will be different?
-
Given the general state of the Ukrainian military, Russians could easily fly an airborne division there is they really wanted.
-
Actually the ships in this case are mostly from the 1990s. Most of those ships are from before the fall of the USSR http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_active_Ukrainian_Navy_ships
-
It is very hard to find a person who is more universally hated in Russian politics than Gorbachev, so that will be a waste of time anyway .
-
Ken, those ships were Soviet before and Ukraine, being the second largest economy in USSR, definitely paid its portion of money for those ships. While Crimea annexation can be justified with enough lawyering, the take over of the ships is pure piracy, not to mention stupidity - after all none of those ships are all that valuable. Most of them were not well maintained, and more over Russia has plenty of ships that they do own that are still rusting in various ports that they can fix up without causing even more of an international scandal. This looks like a move that is solely designed to humiliate Ukrainians.

My point exactly.
