  1. Mid 1960´s???? Typo? IIRC Mid 1960´s was still lots of 5"/38 in USN ... Hermann
  2. 225 Pandur 6 x 6s, 36 of them for AD. Mistral II missiles may be added to the 30 mm gun. And 28 FLAK 35 mm, will be modernised to the latest configuration. Better than nothing, but not much. Hermann
  3. I´ve read it´s made by Tisas, Turkiye. But what I really condemn, is that the sights are not correct. Why call it an Inglis, if it hasn´t typical Inglis sights? Still would consider buying the L9A1 or even the colour case hardended model. Also a nickeled one would be interesting, but IIRC another Turkish Company is making even a SS version, and thinks about an Alu framed gun. Hermann
  4. IIRC we were told, that the 105 mm HEAT round would pierce 360 mm Steel. The "Trick" of the Obus G was, that it was fired through a rifled gun, and had much better Ballistics than a "blunt" and "Finned" HEAT round. The Obus G looked like a Spitzer HE BT round. Hermann
  5. From the thickness of the barrel I am quite sure it´s the 105 mm Version. And the Obus G on Video. IIRC the double baffle muzzle brake hat to be changed later to allow for APFSDS Dart Ammo. Hermann
  6. IMO "Thermite rounds" means "Panzersprenggranate", which is AP, but with HE content, which explodes after delay. So "destroying a penetrated tank really good". Just my opinion. Hermann
  7. I think it was a much underestimated plane. I wish it would have had more sales success. I think no country that bought it, ever regretted this. It did its duty. And it was a beautiful plane. Hermann
  8. The Kürassier ( "Cuirassier" ), which has the French 105 mm Turret, still has two drums in the back of the turret, which are rotated manually. The Kürassier has the Steyr APC chassis as basis, but is much improved: easy steering like a bycicle and stronger Diesel engine. The Obus G HEAT round was used then, as by that time only the Russians had APFSDS Dart ammo. The 105 mm Obus G grenade was the same for the 105 mm AMX 13 gun and the AMX 30´s gun IIRC, AMX 30´s cartridge shell was larger, though. Kürassier was improved to use APFSDS from Mid 80´s on. Hermann
  9. To quote user "On the Way", without his permission: "Gender:Male Interests:Why the hell did the French stop making that tracked sports car with the pirated German canon? Point me to the tank races." 😁
  10. I said copy, and I mean in regards to performance. And that it is. Hermann
  11. Exactly my opinion: the AMX13 ( and the Kürassier ) are more like self propelled AT guns, armoured only against small arms fire and up to 40 mm ( 80´s ammo! NO APFSDS, only APDS ) at the front. Use is in ambush, and the amount of short time firepower is impressive. 75 mm is Panther gun copy, rebored 90 and later 105 mm use Obus G = Gessner or Geßner Granate. A German or Austrian engineer. It´s a spin stabilised HEAT round. Hermann
  12. Do you know what you want to say or prove??? Either you had a little too much of ... whatever, or you are just arguing for arguing´s sake. Your post is totally confusing. Mixing HE / HEAT and Vietnam era vehicle with RCL guns with WWII TD´s operation ... Hermann
  13. I don´t know, if you all have seen the AMX 13 "Loader". It´s principally two drums - HAND turned - to the turrets back. As the turret is oszillating, the drums are always in line to the cannon. So regardless of round used, the cannon fires, one of the 2 men in the turret rotate manually one of the two drums, and slide the chosen shell into the cannon. In Line. AMX ( and later Kürassier ) is rather a self propelled gun, than a Tank. More in line with the Marder II / III than a Centurion. The AMX 13 is the Panther ´s gun on a cheap, quick, agile suspension. Shooting HE is simply a waste. AP is the intended round. The kind of shell in the drums and on the way into the gun is totally irrelevant. Hermann
  14. How was that gun compared to the Austrian / Czech / Italian 47 mm Boehler guns? Are they related? Hermann
  15. Interesting, thanks! But freezing at - 17 ° C? Occasionally we get - 25°C in Mid Europe! Hermann
  16. Ballistol? In an emergency was used for MG´s, for sure, because it was the official gun oil of the German Army 1905 Ballistol Story in English to 1945. Honestly, I would also be interested in the answer. IIRC the German Wehrmacht discovered Winter ´41, that the Russian Gun Oil ( pink? ) was better suited to extreme Winter temperatures. Hermann
  17. I wouldn´t want to sit in one ... it´s time has gone by.
  18. The Germans had uparmoured some of their tanks, e.g. 30 + 30 mm on the mantlet of some Pz III Tanks. Whether this was "spaced Armour" or just manufacturing convenience, I do not know. An often forgot aspect of "Schuerzen", but very much wanted, was that at an ANGLE, distance to the main armour was increased a lot. Proof: look at the very heavy "Schuerzen" on the front of the side skirts of maybe 10% of a Leo II, which at an attack angle of 30 % nicely protect to the rear of the turret. Same with the "spring plates" on the front of the side of early T 72´s. Hermann
  19. That´s - sorry - plain wrong. May look like that somewhat. But in reality it´s a very high angle swept back wing. And it has rear elevators - which give it totally different flying characteristics than e.g. Mirage. IIRC the wings gave problems with aileron inversion. Hermann
  20. Exactly. I did not think of the turret ring, but of the recoil stroke. There HAS to be room for the recoil stroke and for inserting that long shell. Longer recoil path, longer shell = longer turret. Hermann
  21. In modern Tanks there is a LOT of spaced Armor up front. That takes a LOT of space. 1 m of Armor on the front? Not all steel, of course, but still 1 m of space. A certain turret inside volume is necessary, and then the tank rounds get longer and longer, guns recoil more - so the turret grows on the back side, too. Voilá - a LOOONG Turret. Hermann
  22. The UM84 system is quite good, IMO, but the good and REALLY old M 3 holster is just fine with me - e.g. hunting. SO simple and still so good. Better than the M 7. Hermann
