  1. @2805662: Centurion - M41 - Scorpion (1980s) - LAVIII (early 2000s) Cheers
  2. Does anyone know the hangar capacity of the QE Class for the RN? According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia....ircraft_carrier "The hangar deck measures 155 by 33.5 metres (509 by 109.9 ft) with a height of 6.7 to 10 metres (22 to 33 ft), large enough to accommodate up to twenty fixed and rotary wing aircraft." As the "standard" Air Group has been given as 40 (officially), this would mean 20 on permanent deck park. I find it difficult to believe as Ark Royal IV at some 10,000 tons smaller had an Air Group of 36-38. Doesn't sound right to me, I'm wondering if Wiki is wrong and 40 is also the hangar capacity? After all, F35s don't seem anywhere near as large as Phantoms and Buccs to me. Cheers, Muzz
  3. Hi Tony, if you're relying on my info, I have corrected myself above - vehicle weighs 16,000 pounds, not kilos. Sorry about the mis-direct. Cheers, Muzza
  4. Having just looked at Foxhound specs, the 16 tonne max weight suggests a better protection level. Panther is 6 - 7 tonnes at full protection level AIUI. Cheers. Okay, I promise to pay closer attention in future. Vehicle weighs 16,000 pounds

  6. Could have been worse, could have chartered Carin II. Pity they couldnt get Belfast running again, that would be suitably regal enough. If a little impractical with all the low bridges..... As a matter of interest, I was looking through my collection the other day and found a copy of the 1977 Silver Jubilee programme for the Queens inspection of her armoured forces in West Germany. Would anyone find it of interest if I scanned it and posted it up? Oooooh, yes please. I remember the Armed Forces article with HM Land Rover driving under a Guard of Honour formed by 175mm (M107?) barrels. Alas, these days. I am "fitted for but not with" Armed Forces Magazine Thanks, Muzza
  7. Aaaah, yes, but if Challenger 2 was depolyed to Afghanistan, it might prove very useful, and the question "why are we scrapping so many?" would be much, much more difficult to answer...
  8. Apparently they will be deployed from the Royal Navy's fleet of Type 45 Battleships
  9. Then of course you have Lance Sergeants (Corporals), Corporals of Horse (Sergeants), all part of growing up and being British... :
  10. The lineage of "Scotland's Cavalry": 3rd (The Prince of Wales's) Dragoon Guards + 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers) = 3rd Carabiniers (Prince of Wales's Dragoon Guards) (3/6DG) 3rd Carabiniers (Prince of Wales's Dragoon Guards) + Royal Scots Greys (2D) = The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers and Greys) 3/6DG/2D Cheers.
  11. Perhaps an attempt to pick up the following wind?

    Warrior IFV

I remember an Armed Forces magazine article in the 80s about the first Warrior bn (1 GREN GDS???), and how each Coy Cdr had, in effect, two sub units under command; one coy of dismounted infantry, and one sqn of light armour. This would seem to tie in with FirstOfFoot's recollections. Cheers.
  13. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Absolutely brilliant. Cheers.
  14. Some people might very well say that if one cannot fight, one should wear a big hat - but of course, I couldn't possibly comment...
  15. Militants I'd Like to Fry...?
