  1. Is that the hugh grant that was caught in a car with a lady of interesting occupation? I also see that Diane Abbott has been using her maths to count the thousands who turned out last night to protest. JC for some reason is answering Trump's tweets as if he thinks he will score points in some twitter competition.
  2. HM had no choice in the mater she was just following procedure. When they come back from their hols on Monday I would imagine that there will be a quick attempt at a VNC which could run to 3 weeks and then a call for a GE which will mean that Parliament is dissolved for 6-7 weeks which will take up over the 31st deadline. Time has run out now. All that remains is how we spend that time. One or two people in the EU may be sending touseres out for dry cleaning latter today. Read the bolded bit as tonsures for some reason. So at this point there is nothing to stop a no deal Brexit if that is what Boris is aiming for?We don't know. If parliament can find some arcane way to overturn it, then we are looking at a vote of no confidence, which I think Boris just threw away. At which point it's an election. The most dangerous thing for Bojo is the speaker is pro remain. Hardly impartial, but then neither is shutting down parliament to push through policy parliament already rejected. Time has run out. Even if they can get a GE in before the 31st they will need to get the EU to extend artical 50 and there may not be time or the will for that. If there is a GE and TBP use their head and only go for remain MPs Labour could be the fourth party. The tories would take a hit but not so big. LibDems may pick up one or two but also lose at least one in Wales. The SNP ate likely to get a kicking too. It looks like the best option for the remain is the accept the closure of Parliament as it will in the end give them more time. All in all time has run out for remain. I see that the coup rally has attracted many thousands using Abbott mathematics.

Read the bolded bit as tonsures for some reason. So at this point there is nothing to stop a no deal Brexit if that is what Boris is aiming for? Only the EU. I said many centuries ago that the UK will get the deal the EU wanted to offer us and what we wanted would be irrelevant unless it was part of that deal. The EU wanted to make it as difficult as possible to leave to encourage the others that a similar route would not go well for them. All the rubbish about the NI border and returning to the days of the troubles was a red herring swallowed by those who never saw the Irish border. The ball is definitely in the EU court now. Who has the most to lose? How much bacon does Denmark export to the UK. I don't much care if the French wine growers have a problem, I haven't purchased French wine since they burnt our lamb and flattened our apples.

  5. According to some in the UK a coup is in progress. Can any one help me get my head round this. How does the government of the day have a coup on the government of the day?
  6. Acording the JC they have already done that. Well the cat is definitely amongst the pigeon. The question is do they have the numbers to win a VNC which JC was going to have when the time was right and they were certain they would win (can't remember how long before they can run another VNC if they lose this one but I think it will take them beyond 31st). More to the point if they win do they have enough votes to form a government bearing in mind all those indy MPs who JC has upset. JC seems to be counting on those Tories who are remain but they may not want to see him as PM as well as the LibDems who feel the same way. Do these MPs want to go to the country with the possibility that they will get a P45. If the BP put up candidates with a bit more common sense than they did in Wales, then Labour (and a number of Tories) could be out of work come November.
  7. That is a fair point actually. Macmillan was witnessing a down turn in the economy as early as the late 50's, though it didnt stop him saying 'You have never had it so good'. Nobody would have dared say anything like that by the late 1970's. Windmills are very in at the moment, dont put money against someone not putting those back into service. As I read that and got to Macmillan the mind went to the charity shop and had they seen a downturn in the quality of tat. No room we have wall to wall wind farms (and unlike many I quite like the look of and think they should be painted in bright colours, pink, orange, bright red.). We do have one working mill but I think the volunteer got killed playing with the machinery. Long cloths and moving cogs don't work well together.
  8. No charity shops? No estate agents? You are up market. My next door 3 bed semi just sold for 150k. My council has got rid of parking charges to encourage people into town. It seems to work as the car parks are full and people are in town. One of the side effects is that the 30min/1 hour parking slots are always available so if you are just nipping in to the bank you can get a spot. Industrial rundown was going on long before the 70s as technology moved on. In one village nearby they have still got 5 windmills (out of use) and a railway that was built around 1860s and closed to traffic in 1960s. Ermine St comes to an end at the Humber not far from me and things have been going downhill ever since.
  9. Young Jo has made it very clear that JC is incapable of leading a wooden horse on wheels let alone a government. That is why TM went for a GE when she did to sort things out but it all went pete tong. At the time the Lords were saying they would scupper any deal and she hoped that a clear majority would solve that problem. As to an extension, these MPs seem to think it's a done deal with the EU but I think a number of countries are fed up with it and want some certainty one way or the other.
  10. You missed the get out of jail free bit. The answer to that would be never then. I am surprised that no political reporter does not bring this up as he has said it may times.
  11. That is the case. I have spent years (40+) paying into the system and for the most part never used it even when in the army. I am now getting my money back. Over the last two years I have had a set of digital hearing aids (which I don't use), MRI scan, 3 or 4 Xrays the most recent two weeks ago, 2 x ultrasounds, lots and lots of blood test, so much so I may have lost 4 stone they have taken so much, free proscriptions (over 60), yearly eye test free (over 60), an hour in A&E when I scratched my eye followed two weeks later with an appointment with eye surgeon to make sure it was all tickety boo. Generally I am falling apart slowly but as I no longer pay national insurance it is at no cost now.
  12. Builders/plumber/defence contractors, the price quoted is not always the price paid. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIjwoTBctGo At least with your examples you can get quotes and shop around, something that is patently impossible in the world of healthcare. That is a surprize. I've got a gastroenterology appointment on the 24th and I was offered a choice of 3 different hospitals within my area to attend. For some reason I chose the one I could walk to for the appointment.

  14. NIce film, Wrong house unless they have completely reroofed the house and changed the heating system. Oh look they did! You will remember that we had a long discussion on heating and pipework on this house. At 1:18 where have those vent pipes gone? Normal reporting standard of Philips I'm surprised he dose not work for the Sun.
  15. Sod the Welsh, it's the Buffs any fool could see that.
